Dan, The Flexplate is for an auto transmission. The Flexplate has a ringgear for the starter attached. The ringgear on the flexplate is commonly called a "flywheel" however it is not. This is where your confusion comes from. The manual transmission has a "flywheel" which also has a ringgear for the starter attached. However it is much thicher and is visibly different from the flexplate. Flexplates are typically lightweight (when compared to flywheels) and a lot thinner so they cost less. Flexplates cost much more. Thanks again. Scott Dan Black wrote: Subject: Re: fsj: Need Flywheel ASAP! Nope - Have a J3000 with the 360/T-18. 360 was trashed and I had a spare 401 that I decided to drop in. You can get 401 flywheels (the 401's came in front on manual trannies in the AMC muscle cars). Made the mistake of not keeping the 360 flywheel (brain fart) when I junked it. Blew the 401 and got a 360 from an '82 Wag that I wanted to drop in while I rebuild the 401. So I need the flywheel for the 360 (actually have one on order now). Thanks for all the help guys! Scott Jim Blair wrote: Subject: fsj: Help! Closed knuckle front end question I have the closed knuckle front axle from a Ford F250 I'm looking at taking the 8 lug brakes from for my '73 J4000 (currently 5 lug) and I wanted to know if anyone has done it? Are both the same 5 bolt spindle? I need to upgrade my front brakes ASAP! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 13:59:08 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: SoCal fires...
