I put my hi-lift jack under the bumper the other day and got the frame to bend back up about 4 inches or so. Spring pack is still not right so I'm not driving Rez anymore. I may get transferred to Omaha soon, should know in another 2 weeks or so, and I might keep Rez as a hunting vehicle. This is the home area so I'd have places to tear Rez completly apart, fix and reinforce the frame, etc. Modifications may come after all. - --Vince From: "john meister" > 360 v8... > > not many options, that or the 258, which would have been a good thing... ;) > > my buddy still has that '79 Golden Eagle J-10 over there too... > tempting, very tempting... > but what would I do with another one???? > > hello, my name is john, I'm a Jeepaholic... :) > > john > > Vince Orr wrote: > > >Wow. A: You should see the automatic flywheel on Ford 7.3L diesels! I'd guess well over 100lbs (didn't take it off the motor core) I had 2 of those motors in the back of my J4000, but I was too preoccupied with getting the new one into the van to take any pics of the install! (I did however get a pic of the "mechanic groupies" my son brought over when he was helping me) From: "Phillips, Scott" Subject: Re: fsj: Need Flywheel ASAP! Dan, The Flexplate is for an auto transmission. The Flexplate has a ringgear for the starter attached. The ringgear on the flexplate is commonly called a "flywheel" however it is not. This is where your confusion comes from. The manual transmission has a "flywheel" which also has a ringgear for the starter attached. However it is much thicher and is visibly different from the flexplate. Flexplates are typically lightweight (when compared to flywheels) and a lot thinner so they cost less. Flexplates cost much more. Thanks again. ScottGet more from the Web. A: I would rebalance the 401 flywheel to work on the 360 and have the 401 rebalanced to zero (it'll last longer when you rebuild it) then run a 6 cyl flywheel. I was looking into doing that with the 360 from my J4000 before I got the 304 I put in (which had only 60,000 miles on it) and it was a couple hundred dollars extra. (I did that with the 4.6L stroker motor I've been trying to get around to assembling) From: "Phillips, Scott" Subject: Re: fsj: Need Flywheel ASAP! Nope - Have a J3000 with the 360/T-18. 360 was trashed and I had a spare 401 that I decided to drop in. You can get 401 flywheels (the 401's came in front on manual trannies in the AMC muscle cars). Made the mistake of not keeping the 360 flywheel (brain fart) when I junked it. Blew the 401 and got a 360 from an '82 Wag that I wanted to drop in while I rebuild the 401. So I need the flywheel for the 360 (actually have one on order now). Thanks for all the help guys! ScottGet more from the Web. The body needs some attention because it was offroaded and John's son took the fender flares off the front. The driver's side floor was patched, but it's torn through the thin metal from someone's big feet. The doors and tailgate need changed out (they come with from the parts truck). It needs the welded rear end changed out if you want to drive it on the road. The 3.73 gears from the J4000 D44 I'm including would be perfect! The seal on the TH400 output shaft needs changing (it leaks when torqued up and facing uphill because the bolts holding the QT on came loose. I would rethread them while it's apart and put in a new QT chain as it slips under really heavy load in low range. Discovered that when I pulled my loaded Dodge van out of the back yard) The flexplate is for a 360 (I can tell from the vibration. A good torch man could notch it a bit and get away with it) and not 304, but I have one that's correct. The plate between the trans and starter is missing and it causes the starter to drag now and then. The SOA axle I have would make the front pop up nice, and I'll soon have another set of 3.73 gears to go in that too. The doors and tailgate need changing out (comes with) The only real drawback is it's a registration only till the title is cleared. The wiring could use a little cleaning up, but I have it all currently working! Get more from the Web.
