I don't think we need to advertise... ;) btw, when you say "website", which one are we talking about? Do we have an "officical" website for the fsj list? Would that be digest.net or wagoneers.com or is there another one I'm not aware of? :) We've always shared list info with those we run into, but we don't need to join clubs, print flyers and run around like a lunatic ranting and raving about FSJs like one individual did a few years ago... good intentions but a little over the top. ;) Besides I think that's just asking for spam... we're a non-commercial site and we should stay that way... besides I've heard both good and bad about 4wheelparts... best we don't associate ourselves with any commercial entity... if you have a place that gives great service, share, but to put our info up there... I don't know... nice thought but leave the mob scene stuff to the "other" list(s)... On the original FSJ list we always feared getting too large and losing that personal touch. I never look at the other list because it'seems too busy... john Jim B wrote: >We can tell a lot more people about FSJs and that with a link to their site. >http://www.4wheelparts.com/club_program.asp > > - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------ john at http://wagoneers.com from Snohomish,WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... reminding you not to leave life w/o Jesus! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 15:07:52 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [db] Re: free carfax check nov10 At 11:12 PM 11/10/2003, Eric Ditwiler wrote: >I ran my 82 CD and all they could tell me was that it was registered in 1999. > >I would have been P*SS*D if I had paid 25 bucks for that--hell thats a >case of two buck chuck ;) Yeah, what gets me is that a Jeep that was formally and quite assuredly totalled by two different insurance companies twice comes up clean as a whistle... I'm glad they had the free day so I could verify what I had suspected all along... I found this on another bb & thought I would post it on here. ............................................................................. ........................... Yellowstoneb^Ys Lone Star Geyser Area Damaged By Illegal Off-Road Use On Friday evening, October 10, 2003, Adam Ray Elford, a 22 year old Vancouver, Washington man, illegally drove his four-wheel drive 2000 Toyota Tacoma into the Lone Star Geyser area. Elford and a male companion drove around a locked barricade at the parking area and proceeded down the trail to the end of the asphalt. At that point they moved a log barrier and then drove completely around the cone of the geyser and in the surrounding meadows. After getting the vehicle stuck, the driver and his companion set up camp, built a fire, and spent the night near the geyser. The following morning, the Elford and his companion hiked to Old Faithful where they convinced an unidentified couple to assist them with getting their vehicle unstuck. The couple drove the two back to the Lone Star Geyser area, but upon realizing the severity of the situation decided not to help and them and took the two men back to the Old Faithful parking area. At that point, Elford and his companion went to the Old Faithful Ranger Station to report the incident. Park Rangers immediately went to the Lone Star Geyser with Elford and companion in tow. Upon investigating the scene and preliminarily accessing the resource damage done by the vehicle, Elford was taken into custody and transported to the jail in West Yellowstone, Montana. Elfordb^Ys companion was not arrested but was cited for his part in the illegal activities. Elford appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Cole on October 13. He was charged with operating a vehicle off road; injuring mineral resources; possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle; improper food storage; and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license. Judge Cole released Elford on a $5000 Unsecured Bond. On behalf of the National Park Service, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cheyenne, Wyoming, will seek full restitution from the two individuals for all restoration costs. Glad to have you on the list! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 17:19:16 -0800 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: RE: Re: 401 mated to a TF727 A: John, we've gone down this road a few times here and on the AMC list. It's not that the trans is weaker (it has the same number of forward clutches as big block Dodges, but 2 less than Hemi ones). There are a number of things from the poor stock AMC trans cooler (1/2 the cooling area of one from a Dodge and Jeep motors tend to run hotter anyways), people overloading these rigs (with highway gears) and upshifting too soon, general lack of simple maintenance (fluid & filter change every 2 years) and people wanting a soft shifting truck (they often took their rigs back to Jeep and had them adjust down the line pressure for softer shifts, which means slower engagement, which means more wear). Plus the passing gear lever never seems to be set to the right upshift points, which drops the engagement pressure even more. Properly set up, the 727 would outlive or match a similar TH400 or even an AW4. There were used in Police Matadors with 401s and averaged 100,000 miles before needing replacing. (upshift points are higher and so is the line pressure than the stock Jeep 727) Are you 100% sure you didn't have a 998? They look very similar and are much weaker (I snapped the neck off the torque converter of 3 before swapping to a 999) From: john meister Subject: Re: fsj: RE: Re: 401 mated to a TF727 yeah, but you forget that the TF727 used in Jeeps is NOT the same one used in Mopar vehicles... I've been very unhappy with TF727's in Jeeps... junk... lighter duty junk... john ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 2003 19:15:43 -0800 From: john meister Subject: fsj: of jeeps and lawnmowers... my wife mowed the lawn today...
