We have pics of that on the http://www.snort4x4.com/forum board under flipped lid) I will use the hoist to drop it down and then the exhaust will be loose for me to put in my J4000. The Cherokee will be chopped in half and the rear frame half will be added to the '83 WT to lift the rear to match the SOA front axle going in. From: v.orr-at-comcast.net Subject: Re: fsj: out with the old What Jim and John said. I've done this a few times myself and it's better to pull the engine separate due to weight and manuvering ability. I also pulled the tranny and t-case as one unit. Difficult but much easier than trying to work on them under the vehicle. I jacked up one side of 'ol Rez and put in jackstands and blocks for safety. You get to tuggin' and such and you don't want to be under there if it falls off! Don't forget to undo the torque converter bolts...if the converter comes off with the engine, you will have a big tranny oil mess. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 May 2004 22:04:42 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: Re: fsj: Cherokee Fender Flares A: Cherokee WT flares are same as the pickups. (on the front) The bumpers are wider on WT and pickups to get around the flares. From: "Dalan Hawker" Subject: fsj: Cherokee Fender Flares Will Cherokee fenders work on a Grand Wagoneer? I am considering putting a set on my Grand Wag because I am looking for a set of fender flares for it. I would also buy a set of fiberglass rears flares to match from BJ's Offroad (I realize that I would need to do some fabrication to get them to work with the rear doors). Bushwacker's pocket flares would need to be modified from the XJ model and are costly. I need new fenders anyway so I was thinking this would kill two birds with one stone and give me the classic Jeep look. I want to be sure there are no other issues before I make the plunge and buy a set. They look like they will just bolt on, but I wasn't sure about front bumper clearance etc. Dalan Hawker 87' Grand Wagoneer. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 May 2004 22:06:08 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: fsj: out with the old On Mon, 10 May 2004, Jim Blair wrote: >-->A: Today I worked on pulling a T18A out of the '77 Cherokee I'm scrapping do you have the flywheel, shifter and xfr case from that '77??? It looks like that '79 Golden Eagle J10 has a bad TH400... I'll need either a TH400 or QT or another tranny/xfr case... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 May 2004 10:11:16 -0400 From: "Neal Hoover" Subject: fsj: more j-truck pics for those interested, i've posted a few more pics of the progress. http://community.webshots.com/album/117503613fQxzeY/1 the new pics are at the bottom of the page showing the completed frame!! the whole frame from one end to the other has been reworked and coated with POR-15 paint. both axles have been rebuilt with totally new brakes and seals, along with new ball joints, u-joints, and wheel bearings for the front axle. the tranny and 'case have since been cleaned and painted. and now..... the whole drivetrain is READY to install back on the frame! motor is rebuilt, tranny filter and fluid changed, 'case fluid changed and chain inspected (ok). can't wait for the next chance i get to slap it all back together! then, it's off to do the final (but largest)phase... body work. I'm chopping it up anyways, so if there is a part you need let me know. Rockers were starting to rot and so were the rear flares. I saved most of the rear deck inside (very rear crossbar rotted off and the PO snapped the bolts off or drilled them out for the tailgate removal) The front fenders were gone already, but the inner fenders are good (hard to ship though!) I salvaged the working wiring harness (it had Presto-no-lite ignition and a GM alt with external regulator!) and I'm going to use it to test mine ('73 J4000) to see if it's compatible enough to make the rest of my gauges work. If not, I'll sell the whole setup and only the tailgate section was cut after the plugs. (the only thing that worked over the past year in mine is the gas gauge! I bypassed the ammeter first thing because the head lights were flickering just like my '83 Cherokee. I still need to replace the Motorola regulator) I also have a good steering box (I need to remove 1 bolt because it was loose and the only one left when I was steering around the yard and snapped it. Reverse drill should handle that) Everything has come apart pretty clean. The original owner sprayed foam insulation into both the rear 1/4 panels, and I didn't really need the torch to do much to remove them after! LOL! I cut the body and frame in half, just ahead of the nice condition black leather back seat I'm selling (I took it out and the roof off first of course!) I have a pair of black front seats that are due for recover (driver's side is surprisingly better than passenger's side!) The 3.07 Dana 44 RH offset axles are still for sale AFAIK (Owner's asking $300 the pair complete except springs and tires. I think even the tierods are included) ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2150 **************************
