(http://www.snort4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11754) Still need some clean up work done (after I swap the rear axle and put in the trans/tcase) Still trying to decide whether to go AW4 or stick with a 5 speed. (If I could afford an AX-15, I'd put a NP208J behind it in a heartbeat!) I have a BA 10/5 with NP231 or the AW4 with NP242. (My son's girlfriend gets whichever I don't use) The specs are a 4.0L with 120,000 miles (head gasket was weeping so I changed it) It currently has an almost brand new (factory) BA 10/5 behind it, that's 2WD (which is why with a 4 1/2" going on 6" lift I need a decent transfercase setup) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2004 08:45:21 -0700 From: Tesar Landon-r16884 Subject: fsj: Fan clutch? Hi folks, the wag is running hot, on highway, and especially from idle. I'm going to get the cooling system machine flushed(much impressed last time I saw this on an old van) What's the best approach/brand for a fan clutch? The last one I got at NAPA didn't last too long. - - Landon '89 GW ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2004 18:10:08 -0700 From: john meister Subject: Re: fsj: Fan clutch? if napa didn't work then the dealer is your next best source, or is that $ource? ;) john Tesar Landon-r16884 wrote: > Hi folks, the wag is running hot, on highway, and especially from idle. Landon: I ended up with a 4 core radiator to fix the Rez overheating problem. Wasn't cheap but it solved the problem. What I was fighting was a new engine that was bored .030 over. Seemed to generate more heat than a stock motor. Plus, I'm pushing a lot too much fuel. Need smaller jets or something. Check fan clutch, radiator, and you can get a high volume water pump but that usually isn't a great problem solver. Remember to change out the fan clutch every time you change your water pump. It may seem unnecessary but it is a good practice. Also, check the tranny, if you still have the stock transmission cooling lines hooked up to your radiator. I found it helped a lot to put my tranny lines through a heavy duty tranny cooler that is separate from the radiator. Plus, makes your tranny last longer....at least that is the theory. If you change out the fan clutch, and it turns out to be pretty bad, take a hard look at your water pump. A bad fan clutch can do a lot to destroy a water pump, and vice versa. - --Vince - ----- Original Message ----- From: "john meister" To: "Tesar Landon-r16884" Cc: Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 8:10 PM Subject: Re: fsj: Fan clutch? > if napa didn't work then the dealer is your next best source, or is that $ource? ;) > > john > > Tesar Landon-r16884 wrote: > > Hi folks, the wag is running hot, on highway, and especially from idle.
