Dollars to donuts it has "fred flintstone" type floor pans. Lovely looking little car, but very little power (tiny 1300 or 1500cc engine, pushrods, teensy carburettor etc). The Spitfire is smaller than the cars you liked in High School. In the US or UK it might be a different story, but obtaining body parts can get expensive very quickly here in Oz. I nearly finished my Alfa spider project (until I bought an FSJ :-) and the rust repair bill came over $8000AUD when I stopped counting. The triumph will be similar. The mechanicals are very simple and cheap though, if that means anything. I can't remember whether the Spitfire is a unit body or has a frame (i'm guessing it has at least a partial frame) which makes restoration a bit easier than a unit body convertible like an MGB or Alfa spider, so you might consider it worthwhile if you can get the parts cheaply. Hoods/trim etc. are probably all available in reproduction as the pommies are nuts for fixing them up. I didn't crawl underneath but the gal's father had... (He's also originally from the midwest) and we were talking about that very issue. :) He checked it out and I could tell from the floorpan and trunk that there wasn't any rust down below... just on the end of a few places where the paint had chipped.
