This is what i have, I have the bottom half of a Amc 327 v-8, It is still in the truck minus the heads, intake manifold and basicilly the whole top half of the motor. Also have the auto tranny and dana 20 transfer case. This is what i need to find out. Does anyone have Heads, intake manifold, and valve covers for the Amc 327, Or have information on what junkyard engine and tranny (with the help of available adapters) i can swap instead. I was thinking about a chev 350 small block mated to a th-350 or 400 and an adapter to the dana 20. I do not want to have to replace the tranfer case or get different driveshafts, i just want to replave tranny and engine. If anyone has part numbers or even parts it would help. thank you jeremi Check out the new Yahoo! I have a 360 (and a 304) with the AMC adapter to TH400. Motor needs rebuilding, but I'll swap for the adapter ring for the 327 to TH400. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 19:48:43 EST From: Smokey99908-at-aol.com Subject: Re: fsj: More on rebodied Jeeps Trade? according to the PO, " THE MOTOR AND TRANNY PURCHASED FROM ACCURATE TRANSMISSIONS (in california i believe)". I wonder if it will bolt right in in place of the >-->current diff. Hmmmm the system uses sensors on each wheel, a $480 computer by the battery, a solenoid under the rear seat that locks up the limited slip rear diff... I'm going to put a switch in place to allow me to lock up the rear end under my control. Snow? I'm jealous... but only slightly... was walking around in a long sleeve shirt all day... we only had a little bit of rain. ;) I think netscape weather has reported 52 degrees and light rain for over a week now... don't tell them that the sun came out for a few hours yesterday and today... ;) I don't think we're expecting much in the way of snow this year... :( just our usual rain, and I can't remember if we're getting more or less this year... all I heard was not much in the way of snow... Anyway, if you wanted such a system all you need to do is rob the rear end out of a wrecked 4matic vehicle... and, while I haven't looked into it, I would think you could get the entire system including the xfr case... I would think the gear ratio of the gasser will be different, probably make your Diesel a bolt of lightening off the line... :) I wonder how hard it would be to change the ring and pinion in a benz? Randy's ring & pinion would be the first folks I would call to check. I bought my Detroit Electrax for SuperDawg there... it's the new truetrac setup with an electric locker feature... I had a truetrac in my '88 xj, pretty impressive system, much better than a trac lock limited slip, but not as "positive" as a true locker. I had a very bad experience with real lockers... very poor street manners... and while driving like an idiot the locker produced so much understeer that I removed one tree from existence. :) Off road lockers are incredible... I was driving up waterfalls and rocks like they were a lane on the freeway. If I were going to build a mixed used 4x4 it would have either the electrax or the ARB air lockers... nothing like a locker on the trail... but for the street... not for me. >-->How are you making out with the diesel conversion ideas. I'll look at the pix later, still in Linux shell... (viruses and worms aren't an issue here... this is my happy place. ;) Diesel plans remain centered on my '91 300D and of course the '83 Jimmy. Going to finish fixing the Jimmy and put it for adoption along with the '83 300D I picked up. Going to keep my '91 300d and wait for my J10 to go with the 4.0L I already have. So, at this point the '83 J10 is getting the '96 XJ 4.0L HO setup. I researched it pretty well 4 years ago, and basically repeated the exercise again with a slightly new batch of friends... some of the popcorn crowd has been there before. ;) I think the 4.0L with 4.10 gears, the Aisin Warner 4 speed auto, and the NP219 (Quadratrac) will be a good setup... quiet, fast and should be able to tow my overweight trailer... and we're hoping for decent fuel economy. With the 4.2L carb/T5/3.31s I got close to 19mpg... 16mpg typically in town... with the 4.0L we hope to see higher numbers. I got to drive the 6.2L Diesel around a bit yesterday hauling trees and topsoil and while I didn't dislike it, it sure was nice to get back into my Mercedes Diesel afterwards and have a quieter performing vehicle... Driving my wife's '99 WJ with the 4.0L, which weighs in pretty close to my '83 J10, save about three hundred pounds, does quite well with it's 3.73 gears. That same engine with 4.10 gears in the J10 should do quite well. Remember too that when I made this decision originally, back in Spring of aught one (grin) I had tested the theory by pulling my then 1,200 lb trailer behind my then functioning '88 XJ with a 4.0L and 4.10 gears. >-->Have a good day - >-->Fred will do, thanx. john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 18:47:57 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: the '77 Jerrari is still at the National Auto Museum my friend in Reno called yesterday to report that the bright orange '77 Jerrari is still there where we left it. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 18:53:25 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: fsj: 66 Wagoneer engine swap On Sun, 14 Nov 2004, jeremi smyers wrote: >-->I have a 66 Wagoneer and i need information. The Engine is connected to your transmission by a metal ring/spacer. The transmission is a universal type. You could also recase the transmission with a chevy case and then use a chevy v8. Retain the existing output shaft/tail and you're all set. Very easy problem. Very inexpensive to solve... all the parts are out there and not expensive... happy shopping. john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 18:57:14 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: the xj with the "new" 2.8L V6 On Sun, 14 Nov 2004 Smokey99908-at-aol.com wrote: >-->according to the PO, " THE MOTOR AND TRANNY PURCHASED FROM >-->ACCURATE TRANSMISSIONS (in california i believe)". Many of my friends that had these things found that it failed right around the time the factory warranty failed... a few had failures before it was on their dime, others... well, they weren't happy... If this isn't the Target Master replacement, or it hasn't gotten the upgrades Jim talked about I'd drive it carefully and part with it ASAP, or walk away from the deal if you weren't sure...
