As expected her answer was an emphatic NO. Pleading, whining and offering chocolate didn't help either... :) Seeing as how much work would be involved I'm sort of happy to have had help making up my mind. ;) It's amazing after 30 years just how easily I can predict her answers. ;) So, combining the "leave Jimmy alone" comments from my wife, mechanic friend, the listmom (XJ and FSJ) and my son... it looks like I'm going to put a little bit of effort into fixing up the GMC Jimmy. I drove it to work yesterday and was quite happy with it's view of I-5 in heavy traffic. I still haven't tanked this thing up since bringing it home months ago. It seems to be getting reasonable economy. And it's running well. So, I am looking for some parts for the GMC Jimmy/Blazer: tilt column with cruise controls for an '83 GMC Jimmy air intake muffler for the 6.2L Diesel A/C compressor for 6.2L Diesel glow plug controller decent dash cover rear crank for GMC Jimmy/Blazer 31x10.5 tires on six lugs - or a sawzall... ;) (Curtis, what was the height with the 35's on? if it was under 6'6" I may go that route and remove the running boards and trim the fenders... the body on the Jimmy is not so pristine as to devalue it if I open them up a bit... I'm home, give me a ring if you've got some time... :) I'll bring those other six lug rims down so you can move the other 35's over to them. (do you think those 35's will fit on SuperDawg when he's done???) I wonder how this thing would look in bedliner all over it like the J10 trailer? :) ...wouldn't worry about scratching it in brush or parking lot dings... :) '79 300CD: http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/Johns-Diesels/November20-2004/79-300cd-halfwashed-2.jpg - -------------- As far as the '79 300CD, it's in need of some serious TLC. I've got parts from Mark's 300D flying home. Instrument cluster, taillights, etc. The 300CD isn't pristine, but it's mostly straight and a classic. It's too good to part or scrap. The engine is a non-turbo, so it's not real attractive to me as a transplant for an XJ (an xj that I don't have right now... :) Dropping an American V8 into it would be cool, but I don't have one and the amount of fabrication involved exceeds the amount of free time I have. :) So, the '79 300CD needs a transmission, as I'm assuming the transmission in the trunk is a core at this point. Anyone have one? Guess I'll check with Aurora Auto Wrecking to see what they have, or get this one rebuilt. Of course that's assuming that the engine is good... I guess the plan is to get the 300CD back in running shape ASAP and then sell as a runner. If anyone is interested in it speak up NOW before I start putting time, money and parts into it... price goes up as those things go into it. :) Of course I'll need to "test drive" it for a while. '83 300D: http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/Johns-Diesels/November20-2004/83-300d-nov04.jpg - ---------- We should have all the pieces to put it together... had a side trip with the WJ ignition, and of course some nasty rain the last few days... maybe this weekend we'll get it all together and running, work out the bugs and put that up for sale... that'll help pay my mechanic friend and come up with the cash to fix the 300CD and the GMC. It's a remarkably nice 300D, clean and intact... the wife and I have even talked about selling her WJ to get rid of the payment, she'd drive my '91 300D and I'd drive something else... (this is what led to the NO on the 300CD on the Jimmy discussion. ;) XJ: - ------- I will be keeping my eyes open for dead XJ's that are in clean and straight shape... the idea of dropping a Mercedes 3.0L into one is still attractive to me... there was a guy out there putting one in an MJ... guess he's working the bugs out for me. ;) I love XJs, and would love to build a Diesel configuration... WJ: http://www.wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/WJ-4.0L-tuneup/tuning-99-WJ.jpg - ----------- new ignition switch solved the problem... list price was $100, locksmith work about $23... so the '99 Laredo has fresh amsoil 5w30 synthetic, new plugs, new amsoil air filter and new wiper blades... need to change it over to amsoil atf, install the tow hook and it's part of the family. J10: - ------ looks like SuperDawg is going to get the '96 XJ 4.OL... eventually... one thing or another keeps that project from getting done... I think when SuperDawg is done I'll sell the Jimmy... the wife made the comment that ultimately we'll just have the WJ, my 91 300d and that "old junk" truck to haul the trailer... she was talking about the Jimmy... which oddly enough she prefers over the J10... I guess the Jimmy is more practical... the plot thickens... I could be between a rock and a hard spot... :) or a GMC and a J10... Hey, donations of cash, parts or popcorn are always welcome here at the Snohomish Monster Garage, as they are at the Centralia branch as well. :) Speaking of garages, if you have one you're getting rid of be happy to take it off your hands, working outside in a carport isn't a lot of fun... :) Maybe I'll head out and do some work on the 300CD right now, have an hour of light left. :) JUST HEARD, that Rossi won the governorship in Washington by 42 votes!!! another recount coming I guess... Have a great thanksgiving... I'll be working on a server at work from home so I'll be on line... :) later, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Nov 2004 16:09:54 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [db] prepare popcorn... 300CD, Jimmy, XJ, J10, WJ update... :) On Wed, 24 Nov 2004, Kevin Pekarek wrote: >-->On Wed, Nov 24, 2004 at 03:36:19PM -0800, john wrote: >-->> ok, I finally talked to my wife about the 300CD on the Jimmy chassis. >-->> >-->> As expected her answer was an emphatic NO. Not only that, but the Jimmy is more practical for that trip to Medford, easier for me to get that transmission for your FSJ out of it, and easier for her to load her finds down there... :) BTW, did you ever install that 4 speed? >-->> So, I am looking for some parts for the GMC Jimmy/Blazer: >-->> tilt column with cruise controls for an '83 GMC Jimmy >--> >-->Probably the most common steering column ever built.
