I pointed out that he could buy an ENTIRE Jeep for that amount... after about 45 minutes of chatting about this and that he learned that I have an '83 300D with a Turbo Diesel in the driveway... (remember that his '82 was vandalized beyond repair in AZ and that's why he bought my '87 XJ... http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/CARS/Marks-82-300D/the-last-day/) Anyway, he lamented missing his Mercedes and suggested that I sell him the '83... He missed the nice ride of the Benz on the desert access roads... :) ...so if I can get the '83 300D working properly before March he'll trade back the XJ... of course the XJ isn't needed by me, but might be a good candidate for a Diesel conversion... ;) of course I was hoping to make some money with the 300D to pay for my other projects... oh well... I guess having the Monster Garage located in Snohomish keeps my kid coming back home... a good thing for certain. :) So I guess I better pay attention to that Diesel MJ project a bit more, eh? ;) For those of you keeping score, that still leaves the '77 300CD and the '83 GMC jimmy here... and one of these years SuperDawg will be done and I'll have my '83 J10 stepside back finally... ah, but it's still early, we've still got four months to go, and the 300D isn't running quite right yet... of course in four months who knows what could happen to that XJ... :) this should be entertaining to say the least... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Dec 2004 23:22:23 -0800 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: fsj: Don't know what to do First, I know this is offtopic, but I don't know what to do. Some good friends of mine in Renton are about to be thrown out of their mobile home because they are unable to make their rent payment. (they have lived there for over 10 years) She has had 3 heart attacks and has multiple health issues, including pneumonia but has been turned down for Social Security. Her husband used to work for Boeing, but was laid off last year and has been unable to find a job since. (it's tough once you hit 50) Sheriff served them notice today to vacate by monday or they will be physically thrown out into the street. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get help for them? I am at wits end trying to think of something. I have driven them around to these places and helped keep their Jeep running ( Their old car lost it's trans last spring and I fixed up a $200 XJ for them) They have already contacted the Red Cross and several local churches (they were all financially stretched beyond helping them) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 09:50:34 -0600 From: Damian Shaver Subject: Re: fsj: Don't know what to do Jim, I know how hard it can be trying to find help for good people who are just in a bad way and don't deserve it. Though I don't know of any long-term solutions for you, I would be personally willing to help out by making a donation, care-of you, to help them keep their home. This is the holiday season, and we have to remember our fellow man, not just ourselves. Besides, twenty or thirty or even fifty bucks out of my wallet isn't going to kill my Christmas, but it could mean their home to them. It would have to be done quickly, maybe through Paypal or something...but I think there are members on this list who would be willing to help out as much as they can. Just let us know what we can do to help. On Thu, 9 Dec 2004 23:22:23 -0800, Jim Blair wrote: > First, I know this is offtopic, but I don't know what to do. NO. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR DIESEL under any circumstance... However, this works great with gas engines because of carbon buildup. Water does not compress and if you get too much water into the intake you could do damage... Certainly you do not want to put this into your Diesel injectors at all... The reason it works so well in gas engines is the water vaporizes and actually cleans the cylinder walls, rings and valves... it's an amazing thing to watch... I haven't done it with fuel injected gas engines because they are so much more efficient than carb versions, so there usually isn't a problem... but with a carb rig it works wonders... Cool idea to use a vacuum line to do it... meters the intake and prevents some one drowning their rig and hydrolocking it. :) I usually pour the water down the carb or throttle body and keep the engine rev'd so it doesn't stall... If you do this to your GAS rig, don't stand behind it and make sure the tailpipe is aimed away from anything you car about, especially any white objects, clothing or plants... :) john On Fri, 10 Dec 2004, Stephen Rigley wrote: >-->http://home.att.net/~edwardsauctions/ChineseWaterTorture.htm How.s this for a power mod: My check engine light came on while at the Blue Ridge Parkway, so I take it to my friends shop and using a Snapon computer they determine the code: P0134. Problem with first O2 sensor, they run a further test which shows it.s voltage regularly dropping well below the minimum, but this still doesn.t prove anything. They reset the light and it stays out. But then, he takes a jar of water, about 1.5 pints and using a section of vacuum hose connected to the vacuum port for the cruise control he quickly dips the hose in the water repeatedly while reving the engine, not very high, producing plenty of steam and a really small deposit of black on the ground under the exhaust pipe. Next using exact same method with an injector cleaner, not sure exactly what it was but will find out and post here, this time producing plenty of smoke, both black and blue. She survived I thought to my self. Did not expect any difference in the car but I was wrong. This made a car that felt great feel much better, pulls stronger, revs smother, louder exhaust. You can definitely feel the increased power at all speeds. This from a car that already felt great! This car has had only three years of use, then one year off, just turned 18k. I routinely see 7k rpm so I didn.t think I could have any carbon built up. GOOD NEWS! MANY thanks to those with ideas and offers of help for my friend's plight. (I know some of the messages I sent out didn't make it due to yahoo bouncing them, so don't be confused if this is the first you are hearing of this) Turns out that the Sheriff served them eviction notice on the 9th, rather than the 10th (although legally speaking 5:01 PM is considered the next day. I think maybe he did that intentionally so they had all of today to fight it or it would've been too late) Management of the trailer park turned down my offer to pay their rent a few days ago saying "It was taken care of". Then the delivey of eviction notice yesterday got me ticked. Most of the legal/social help offices we contacted were closed for the holidays or moving, BUT I managed to catch someone in an office who was supposed to already be gone, who offered the BEST advice. The trailer has a lien on it and the morgator was NOT notified of the impending action to remove my friends AND tow away their double wide. They contacted the lien holder and he got his lawyer just as he was coming out of court. He did a Uturn and caught the judge before he left. The judge said (off the record of course) the trailer park management were the WORST grinches he had dealt with in the past 10 years. He reversed the exparte eviction order on humanitarian and legal grounds, so my friends are covered on that. To top it off, the lien holder (who would've been on the hook for $20,000+ in moving fees, etc had the park been able to haul the double wide away. At least till the Park owners/management were sued anyways) is covering the rent owed along with the legal fees. The lien holder's lawyer is taking on their Social Security appeal for handicap benefits pro bono. (they have been turned down 4 times. She's on oxygen 60% of the time and has had 3 heart attacks, but they wrote: "applicant appears to be able to handle a job, perhaps as a waitress". Would you want a woman, who could have another heart attack at any time, dragging an oxygen bottle around while serving you your meal? He's over 50 and only knows how to assemble aircraft parts by blueprint. He's so dyslexic, he can't read above grade 3 level) Thanks to the help of a lot of people (and even just the ideas of where to start) this couple will have a happy Christmas and beyond. Who says we can't tackle social injustices? ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2322 **************************
