A: On my way home I helped a motorhome that was stuck sideways and sliding on my hill. I played anchor and pulled the back towards the uphill so the front could spin and face downwards, then slowly let them down the hill till they got to the bottom (someone told them highwinds were coming in the next day or so and last time a tree mashed the AC and roof on it so they weren't taking chances) Tomorrow night I'll be helping fix a fuel line in another that was parked under the same trees so it can move (she had the fuel pump replaced several times due to the leak. I saw the gas on the intake and realized it was the line in front of the carb leaking!) From: john Subject: xj: Re: [WJ-Grand] could it snow? Since it's been graded level, humps and weeds removed and replaced with a nice thick layer of 1-1/4 minus pit run from builder's sand and gravel in Maltby, the hill climb contest won't be quite the same any more. :( Anyway, we decided to take the '99 WJ Laredo, selectrac, up the paved drive... of course it was a few degrees warmer then when our neighbor tried it... and we went right up. I think tires have a lot to do with it... the neighbor's 2002 has the original goodyears on it still and they're probably worn a bit, ours are newer avalon's... not sure who makes them, only heard about them a few times before, but they seem to be excellent tires. Got an email from somebody looking for a biodiesel setup and introduced them to the list (dieselbenz) and got to thinking that a few folks forget how to sub or unsub from the xj, fsj and diesel benz list, so I'm posting the instructions/rules for grins. (see below) I started the original FSJ list back in '95 with a dozen or so others, and then moved the list around... in '97 I moved it to a commercial site and started the XJ list... in Nov '97 I quit that commercial site and started these "new" lists on digest.net with much thanks to Richard Welty. I have all the digests from the FSJ, XJ and dieselbenz lists on my server. http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/digests/ http://www.wagoneers.com/XJ/digests/ http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/digests/ These digests are a good source of technical info and I try to extract technical details and historical info and build pages that I put on my server... But you can help the cause by posting repair tips, technical details and such by sending it to the list in a clear and concise format. I have repaired the search tools on wagoneers.com and will try to optimize them at some point. The idea behind the lists and wagoneers.com is to help people save money on their rigs... and avoid being ripped off. It breaks my heart to hear people paying way too much money for should be simple repairs, and often times people pay for repairs that are simply unneeded. I could create a list of each type of vehicle discussed of what constitutes common problems, and solutions... I know of folks that have paid for a rebuilt transmission on a Mercedes Diesel when all it was was a bad vacuum line or an adjustment. I've heard of folks replacing the entire ignition system on full size Jeeps and all it might have been was dirty contacts... and so on and so on. Sometimes it's ignorance of the shops and sometimes it's a simple lack of ethics. I usually avoid suggesting dealerships for repairs, but am often surprised to learn that some repairs may be more affordable at one! Guess one really needs to research and make at least two or three calls before getting something fixed. With the money you save by not paying a fortune for a repair you could upgrade your rig, take your better half out for a treat, or make a donation to digest.net or wagoneers.com... because both of those servers are paid for entirely by their owners... no advertisements or subscription fees... It's not a cheap thing either... I'm even thinking about selling wagoneers.com and "downsizing" my website... I guess I'll see when the bills come in for this year... :) anyway, we had snow, might have a bit more... :) The WJ did fine, as always. OH, BTW, my son just bought a '74 AMC Javelin... he's down in Tucson, AZ and wants to build up a V8 and manual trans for it... ideas? Might want to email me off list with details... (although the AMC V8 performance stuff would be relevant to the FSJ list). for the record, have had: 22 - Full Size Jeeps (still currently have 3) 9 - Mercedes (8 Diesels) (have 3 right now, 2 for sale) 9 - Cherokees (1 Diesel) (none right now) 2 - WJ's (both '99's) http://www.wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html Hoping to have SuperDawg finished this year... ====================================================================================== To subscribe to a list on digest.net, EMAIL majordomo-at-digest.net, no subject needed, in the body: subscribe [ fsj | xj | diesel-benz ] end (note: select only one of the options in the brackets) You will need to reply to an authentication message.
