Thanks John! Only makes the noise in park. In gear or neutral - no noise. Tranny shifts great. Does not roll in park. Checked the linkage, but seems ok. Even in park the noise goes away if you race the engine. It sounds like it's coming from the timing cover. I have a Flowcooler water pump, but doubt that could be it because of the noise going away when in neutral or gear. Wierd one. A: I think I have that beat! Not 2 or 3, but FOUR Jeeps are coming to my place! Today I swapped an '84 Bronco full size body for the parts XJ (that one will get my son's '89 Comanche running with a good 5 speed and 4.10 axles), I made a deal with the women I sold my '76 J20 (360 T18A D20 turned J10 with an axle swap) to and got their other '77 J10 with 401 TH400 QT (they got the 4.0L '87 XJ I fixed up and still have the '03 Rubicon daily driver) and to top it all off, the Buick 350 powered '68 wants to come roost here as well! (what on earth will I do with the M715 that I've been trying to make space for! I STILL haven't had daylight time to look at it yet even!) I'm working out parking, but the 401 J10 will have to go quick (4 bbl carb needs rebuilding) and I may part it out. The box will work for a trailer, but if it's really good, it'll find another home. The '76 J20/10's box is shot (they used it for hauling the building materials for their house. It never skipped a beat!) so the flatbed I have may go on that. I know I'll have to find a new home for my J4000, but I may put it's 304 and the TH400 from the J10 in the '76 and sell the 360/T18A/D20 setup. I wonder if there is enough room for me to hide these all in Seattle? From: john Subject: xj: one jeep a day is NOT enough... just talked to our daughter, I told her about this one jeep... heading out to look at it right now... I may set a new record today if we buy it. ;) two XJ's in one day... ;) john ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Mar 2005 00:27:17 -0500 (EST) From: john Subject: fsj: 4.0L mileage Just tanked up the wife's '99 WJ with the 4.0L. It feels like somethings rubbing or dragging... rolls along fine, but I get the feeling like something isn't quite smooth, hard to explain. Maybe the WJ too? idles smooth, responds well... don't think the injectors are the issue... it's elsewhere in the driveline... possibly u-joints, but it's not speed dependent... new brakes, but will check, doesn't feel or smell the same... nothing dragging, rolls free. there are 129 parts used from the ZJ on the WJ, I doubt that anything thing that was recalled was used. The WJ is a totally different vehicle... ZJ's have a lot of issues, I'll take an XJ over a ZJ any day of the week. john >--> >--> >-->Just tanked up the wife's '99 WJ with the 4.0L. >-->Only got 15 mpg. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Mar 2005 12:29:30 -0500 (EST) From: john Subject: Re: fsj: Re: anyone selling a GW?? Tacoma, Even though the madmen from mopar took over in about 1987, they had little influence on the SJ. I believe that what little they did however was favorable, the late '80's models are better in quality and wiring than all the earlier models. There were a few goofball things they did to the GW, like that trackbar in the rear, but otherwise a late '80's model would fit fine in my collection. AS far as Jeeps go, I'm only blaming Chrysler for the following: 1) the lack of modernization of the SJ (i.e. fuel injection withheld) 2) the demise of the SJ 3) the demise of the XJ 4) the introduction and production of the ZJ (yuch) 5) the demise of the WJ and introduction of the WK. I recommend the early 80's and up SJ's because of the better transfer cases and axle drop. The '74 and up are fine because of front disc brakes. :) john On Sun, 27 Mar 2005, Tacoma White wrote: >-->Brad Woodard wrote: >-->hey taco, they didn't make GW's till '84. chryslur didn't take over until late >-->80's ('87?) >--> >--> >--> you know what I mean, weisenheimer!
