(the Jimmy took 43 seconds!!!) The '86 Cherokee Chief was able to make 60mph in about 34 seconds w/o trailer; whereas the Jimmy w/o trailer did it in 28. The Chief needs a cat. A mechanic told the PO that, makes sense based on it's behavior driving home. I'm really beginning to wonder about the trailer again... when a 6.2L Diesel struggles, a 4.0L struggles and a 2.5L barely pulls it empty... well... I think it's just too heavy. One good thing is that a new gardening/topsoil place opened up just up the hill! Problem is for a yard of 1-1/4 gravel they want $28! It only costs me about $16 over in Maltby... of course there is the mother of all hills over there... the guy did have some suitable stuff for my driveway for $15 a load though! So I guess I'll make a few runs before I sell the trailer... in the meantime I'll see what I can do to reduce it's weight. I have a few ideas, but it might be easier to start over. I got the 300SD running but didn't test it. There is indeed a drain on the battery, I disconnected it... touch it and you see sparks. But it was a daily driver and seems to run well, so I'm going to start the body work, and if I have time I'll deal with the electrical issue. I guess pulling fuses and seeing if the sparking stops. :) Speaking of fuses, I'm facing a lot of work with this little XJ... I guess I'll plug away at it and make improvements, but I suspect that when SuperDawg is finally done that I'll prefer him over the Chief, which will be fine. I'm sure I'll find a nice home for the Chief. I've decided on a strategy for keeping both my '91 300D and either the Chief or SuperDawg... simple really, I'm driving 60 miles a day, if something goes sideways and I have to fix something, like what happened when the brakes and the water pump on two different vehicles had me waiting for parts and time... well, then I'll have a running spare. Three vehicles in the fleet with two drivers isn't unreasonable. (Do you think this will fly? ;) It's too bad my wife won't let me put a hitch on her WJ. :) I think she fears the trailer too. Let's see the fleet as of Sunday, 27 March 2005: '99 WJ Laredo 4.0L '91 300d 2.5L TD '83 J10 stepside - getting a 4.0L... maybe this century... Dennis, I don't have a clue... but I bet a nickel that Jim Blair and others on the FSJ list will. cc'ing them. :) I still have a '77 300CD available cheap, along with an '83 GMC Jimmy 6.2L Diesel and soon a '91 Pontiac Grand Am... john DRIVEIN59-at-aol.com wrote: > John > I have a 84 GW, the 727 all of a sudden wont shift from first to second. > It will hit third hard -at- 35 mph. At 45MPH it will surge like dropping from 3rd to 2.5, but never down to 2nd. Definitely transmission and not engine. Above 50MPH runs fine. Also no problem when cold, only once warmed up. Ideas? (surprised?) How will this all play out? Will the '89 Limited john spotted appeal to his daughter? Will the cost of retrofitting a/c to the '92 be affordable (any ideas?) ? Will the Jimmy ever find a new home? Will john ever stop this nonsense? (even he is asking... ;) My son is bringing home a shop crane... I already bought the hydraulic rams so I'm going to fix both Benz trunks... I may try to sell the W116 body without the engine/trans. Or I may just call a junker and haul the entire fleet off... :) I just wish my J10 was done already... then I wouldn't be trying to build something I need, I'd have it alreay. :) I have figured out how to add onto my carport and maybe even enclose it... we'll see... longer days are starting, stargate is going into reruns... perfect time of year for projects ;) Does any one know what it might cost to add A/C to a '92 Cherokee? I found a really, really clean one without it... I think all it needs is a TPS and it'll be 100%. But without a/c it's just not desired by anyone here... strange as that may seem. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2399 **************************
