While out, I noticed that the braces that run from side to side up against the roof have some kind of black tary putty between them and the roof. I'm assuming this is to reduce roof vibration and all. I need to reaply this stuff. Anyone know of a good source for it? I imagine it needs to be able to get dang hot without getting too runny, because I'm sure that section gets very hot after baking in the sun. Or would something like rubber strips work better (like the ones between the headliner and the roof in a couple places)? Thanks, - -brad Plan great trips with Yahoo! (of course over half that tank was commuting in Seattle and driving around Portland. :) ('91 300d) met up with Brad from the FSJ list at fry's. of course I went inside, picked up a cheap car alarm for my benz and installed it at the Lloyd Center while my wife shopped today. :) Amazing that Mall security didn't visit me... I had my dash torn apart, tools all over... :) Found another '92 white Cherokee sport along the way, emailed my daughter and she prefers it as it has a/c. So I'll be selling the other '92 sport w/o ac. It's super clean... Tempting prospect for a Diesel setup... May sell then engine/trans to a friend at work and keep the body! Will also be selling the '86 Cherokee Chief as we're making progress toward getting SuperDawg together. The Chief should come together nicely, steering column is loose, some minor electrical issues, a few rattles, clogged cat... should have it in top shape in a couple of weeks. It came back real nice from the "cleaners". When I get back I'm going to pull the driveline out of the Jimmy... oh boy, that'll be fun. :) I think I'm going build a filter assembly modelled after the Mr. Fusion upgrade on the Delorean... :) Plan on using the Jimmy's 31 gal tank where the aux tank is now on my J10 and putting the aux tank in the bed with the filter setup... I've got lots of wrenching to do at home... almost done with the '79 300SD. I'm going to pick up a replacement alternator for it if I have time. I should have the taillight installed and the trunk latching by the weekend, last two items... It's looking much better. That Porta-Power worked great, the 10-ton unit worked much better than the 4 ton unit I tried with the '80 300cd. Well, heading off line... SUSE Linux conference and drive home in the morning. Stopping to pick up the Jeep... maybe... along the way. :) My wife says I'm at the parking limit right now, so either one of you has to buy one of my projects or I'm going to hide one at the parking garage at work... ;) later, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 23:36:59 -0500 From: JeepNut Subject: Re: fsj: auto body question Doublestick foam tape maybe...? I got a roll of rubber like 1/2" wide 1/16" thick from a windsheild/glass repair shop. It's what they use around the edge of the glass when seating the vent glass into the frame. Unfortunately I don't have a "name" for it. A guy just gave me a small roll of it for the asking when I inquired about replacing the vent window glass myself... You can buy a roll of thick "rubber rope" that is a type of windsheild sealant at AutoZone or nearly anywhere, but it is pretty thick. It's handy though. Customer rolled up and complained he had no heat, so I asked him when was the last time he checked his rad. He lifted the hood while I was helping someone in the car next to him and next thing I know a spray of hot antifreeze is blasting all over! He had opened his rad cap and jumped out of the way. I jumped too when I heard it and even though I didn't get splashed, I landed wrong and appear to have ripped the Plantar muscle in the back of my calf. It just went pop and even though I made it to work sunday (painkillers, anti-inflammatories, icing, heating, soaking) this AM it was so swollen I couldn't even get my workpants over it! Took all day to get an appt with the Doc and now I get to have an ultrasound on that tomorrow and vist the Chiro at noon. (figures this stuff happens right before my days off with nice weather!) I have an AW4 and a custom machined part to mate it to an FSJ NP219. I'm willing to part with these parts for what I've paid for them. They're in Washington state. I'm also going to be selling the 4.0L with complete wiring and computers. And steering column with airbag... engine/trans out of '96 xj. I'm going with the 6.2L Diesel in SuperDawg, and glad I did, they just hiked our fuel taxes another 9 cents a gallon beyond the 5 they already did last year, ya gotta love the mind of the democrat... they say they're for the people, these fuel taxes are exceedingly burdensome on the working class... email me off list at dieseljohn-at-comcast.net john On Thu, 21 Apr 2005 FSJparts-at-yahoogroups.com wrote: >-->Topics in this digest: >--> >--> 1.
