Hey John P is that my Grand Wagoneer?? ...LOL... What a hoot! My 12 year old and I just watched the video and were cracking up. Then he asked me if that was the silver '87 sitting out in the driveway... and by golly I have to wonder, I think it might be... just curious; and THEN I showed him how vulnerable a "Hummer" is by watching the link from Steve Bryant, though it should be illegal to call those miniSuburban wannabees Hummer... it's insulting to AM General even if they were the ones dumb enough to license the use of the name. Kind of like Rolls Royce licensing their name to a kit car company.... I just went and picked up a 77 Dodge mini motor home...van body style. It had been sitting for well over 15 years. Within 8 hours i had it running and drove it away. Pulled fuel tank...cleaned it and put it back...new fuel pump....drained tranny and refilled..put in new tranny filter..drained engine oil and refilled...pulled one drum off to free it up..a little tweaking on carb...and tada....one vehicle who's previous owner thought was only worth parts and ready to take it to the crusher..was going down the road....PO was stunned speachless and tried to buy it back. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; ; Cc: ; Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2005 5:51 PM Subject: fsj: Fixing my old Jeep > Guys we had better stand back and take a good look at what is going on > with > my jeep. (commission check in July!) I am just having a hard time deciding how high. I will likely buy the BJ's kit. Either 4" or 6". The 6" kit is pretty complete, drop pittman, long brake lines, etc. The 4" kit is less complete and almost half the cost as a result. But with it I may not need the drop pittman and could do with brake extenders probably, etc. but none of that is my main question. The main question is 4"? or 6"? 4" doesn't sound like much, but I intend on 32" tires. I'm just afraid that when I get it, then in a year it will have settled and now is only about 3" or less lift and I'll want to kick myself. This is typically me. I "compromise" (usually due to money) and then later regret not getting the Gargantuan XXX size soda. I don't like small things. Yards, houses, trucks, cars, dogs, hills, or paychecks -- I like 'em big. 6" SOUNDs about right to me and I think it would look OK on 32"s but maybe that would be "impratically" high? I think it might be a little higher than I need or really want at first but after a year or so, again, won't it settle and be actually about right? I'm primarily going to be interested in trail riding, log hopping, and getting through sticky clay mud, etc. and not so much rockcrawling. Maybe 6" is a bit too much? Anyone with a BJ's kit know about how much they will settle after a years' worth of light-medium duty exercise? (I don't live near Moab or anything like that but there are some pretty fair grades in the hills of east TN.) July approacheth, .... Opinion time. 4" or 6" ??? If you regear then it's a piece of cake to do while you are at it. Then buy extended hoses for a Chev 4x4, longer shocks (you'll need those anyways) and go for 8" rear lift springs (they will settle to match the front 7" SOA in a year) High steer arms (with your steering knuckles drilled to fit) and a couple new tie rods (slightly longer for the Chev/Ford axle) If not, then with 4" of lift and maybe a body lift (2" max if it touches anywhere) you should be able to run 33/10.50 tires no prob. Go with WT/pickup front fenders and chances of touching at full flex are extremely low. Hi guys, Well, I THINK it is going to work out for me to get my lift kit this summer. Superdawg has 2" spring and 2" body, running (or was) 235's, I am going to 4.10's, but with the 6.2L Diesel I may need taller gears and will then go 31's or 33's. I prefer narrower tires to get the contact pressure up for better traction. The other consideration is ride quality... which one will allow you to keep your fillings intact? ;) I have one other criteria now... total overall height. The parking garage at work, and oddly enough, at the airport is 6'6" max clearance. My GMC Jimmy in stock array with 30x9.5's just clears... john On Fri, 20 May 2005, JeepNut wrote: > -->Hi guys, > --> Well, I THINK it is going to work out for me to get my lift kit this > -->summer.
