If you're lucky, maybe it's just the temp gauge leaking. (I think that's what's on back there...) There's a threaded hole near the back right (directions as from sitting in the car), right in front of the ATF dipstick, with (I think) the temperature gauge screwed into it. I think it has some weird tree-like connector attached to the temp gauge (with five or so vacuum hose attachments on the connector). Maybe that's just loose or not sealing well. If so, it might pool on the back of the manifold, right by the valve cover. (Hope those are tight!) Especially if you park pointed slightly downhill; there are lower areas on the manifold in front of that hole, but the back of the manifold is right behind it, so if it leaked to that side, it would likely... drip down onto the starter area. (Don't want to give you false hope, though, either -- if the gasket is leaking anywhere back there, it could end up draining the same place.) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am Homer of Borg. Before you go to the trouble of pulling the starter you might want to get a mirror and inspect the back of the head and block. I could be it'll need a bunch of cleaning before you'll be able to tell anything anyway. It might be better to find that out before you pull the starter. Also, the mirror might show you the source of the leak in the first place. I had a similar leak that turned out to be a cracked head. Hopefully your engine hasn't suffered the extreme over heating that mine did. I have had a few nightmares about it being a cracked head. I sure hope not! My biggest concern is it is is something I'll hafta pull the head for, then as long as I have that head off, I should pull the other and get the heads rebuilt. Then, as long as I'm doing that, I should probably put a new timing chain set on. Might as well check the bearing and replace if they are worn. In other words, might as well rebuild the engine. That would be fine, except I'll be walking the whole time and broke! - -brad - --- Brazzadog-at-aol.com wrote: >> Before you go to the trouble of pulling the starter >> you might want to get a >> mirror and inspect the back of the head and block. >> I could be it'll need a >> bunch of cleaning before you'll be able to tell >> anything anyway. Maybe I could do what I did with the 30-min 2005 Jeep marketing ad they showed on Speedvision over and over, and make it into a relatively small mpeg to let people preview it and see if they really want to bother with a DVD. With the ad on Speedvision, pretty much everybody agreed it was just a long ad and wasn't worth the hassle of payment, burning and sending DVDs. This one is obviously a plug for BJ's, but at a glance, it looks more interesting than a Chrysler mass-marketing ad. And the way the times are shown, I'm guessing it's spread over two episodes. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Negative forty degrees keeps the riff-raff out. -- North Dakota State Motto - -------------- Dan Black ------------------------- dan-at-black.org -------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Jun 2005 12:59:45 CDT From: Dan Black Subject: Re: fsj: BJ's on TV Damian Shaver said: {- Yeah, I would be interested just for the Cherokee build-up.
