'48 Willys CJ-2A - http://wagoneers.com/Willys/48-CJ-2A/ replace starter relay and top, also need to fix 2nd gear in T-90 and install the top (comes in next Fri). Found an '83 Mazda 2.2L Diesel and it's mating 4speed. Question is how long is that 4 speed and can I adapt it to my Dana 18 xfr case? Looking for a few parts for the CJ-2A, found one outfit on line that looks promising: Walck's 4 Wheel Drive - think they're back in PA. Has reasonable prices on the items I need: - hood blocks (8.00) - exterior mirror (23.95)- wipers (32.95)... they've also got a 12v heater ($185) ... decided to rattle can the CJ tan... probably bed line the floorpan... '99 WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8 - pick it up tomorrow... http://wagoneers.com/WJ/rigs/99-laredo-V8/ checked on a 2" lift kit... $210 at Central 4wd (Rubicon Express?) makes it... basically spacers and new shocks... Not sure I want to lift a WJ though... I guess the main thing I'm doing to the WJ tomorrow is putting on convex mirrors, setting up my tool box, finding floor mats for it and then completely convert it and my wife's WJ to Amsoil synthetics. Found out this WJ was bought new in Tacoma, WA... a west coast rig! I'm excited... sunroof, hitch, infinity sound system, quadradrive and a smooth 4.7L V8. '99 WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L I6 - http://wagoneers.com/WJ/rigs/99-laredo/ need to switch it to Amsoil synthetics in the trans/axles and xfr case... Also need to fix the seat heaters I added. I think the controller has corrosion... haven't been under it since we owned it... engine and underside is spotless, amazing... (someone purchased it new in Everett, WA) '91 Grand Am - need to tighten the belts again... argghhh... hope my daughter gets a big raise so she can buy something with ONE serpentine belt instead of what is on this 2.5L I-4... :) '75 J10 Hydraulic dump trailer... need to rewire the outside lighting on the upper drive so I can plug the trickle charger in... also need to find the adapter to the six pin coupler... very cool that I've got a V8 Jeep again! :) Who cares if this thing weighs 2,000lbs! http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/J10-trailer/ '83 J10 getting 6.2L Diesel - been in work since April 2001. :( http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/SuperDawg-83-J10-stepside/ dual tanks, WJ seats, lots of superb features... will go and visit it next week... the cab inside and under and the bed have been bedlined... soon as curtis gets his shop rewired so he can setup his heaters and ventilation and paint it... when the J10 is done I have a feeling one of the WJs will go away... :) We'll see... I may be able to get away with having a WJ, SJ and a CJ... ;) I'm slightly out of control... But hey, all this experience will be a big plus when I finally put the book(s) together... (when I was cleaning up my office I found four large boxes of Jeep literature and tech manuals... I think I have enough material to write the book now... ;) where do I start though? ;) in thought process: (like I need another project... ;) (tempting though... :) '92 XJ Cherokee Sport with no engine - sold it for the engine/wiring to a friend for his mid-80's CJ-7. I could get the body and AW4 back with running gear... the Mazda 2.2L would be woefully inadequate for this task... so I'd either put the extra 4.0L I have around (it's for sale), updating the wiring to a '96... OR, pick up that '85 Mercedes 3.0L TD and AT (only $1,300!)... build a divorced case setup adapter to use the NP231... OR just quit thinking about this and focus on the other projects. ;) I don't need this XJ... I don't need the 4.0L (it's still for sale guys)... I don't need the 3.0L TD... I really don't need the 2.2L either... ;) Hey, anyone need a pair of running boards for an early '80's GMC Jimmy/Chevy Blazer K15/k5? free... come and get 'em... Mark took them off of the '83 GMC K15 when we traded for the Willys... the GMC looks nice... I hope Mark doesn't destroy this vehicle like he did the '87 XJ... or the '83 300D... speaking of which, I've got the tail lights and headlight assemblies from that 123, along with an instrument cluster and a few other odds and ends. Going prices on this stuff... remains of Mark's 300D http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/Marks-flying-82-300d.jpg You know, thinking about it... the last good Jeep was the WJ. Next to last was the XJ. The first best Jeep is the SJ. CJ's are just ok... :) ZJ, WK, XK, and KJ are simply bad news on oh so many levels... although the ZJ at least has solid axles, but still looks like a minivan. ;) Y'all have a very Merry Christmas... hope you know the reason for the season personally... later, john http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html '99 WJ 4.7L (no name... yet) His (grey) '99 WJ 4.0L (no name) Hers (white) '83 J10 6.2L (superdawg) (white?) (maybe this year...) '48 CJ-2A 2.0L (maybe a 2.2L) (tan?) (no name ... yet) '75 J10 hydraulic dump trailer (bed liner) leaving the drive soon: '91 300D 2.5L TD (shadowfax) - the best car I've ever owned. too bad it couldn't tow my Willys, trailer or get up the drive in real serious heavy type snow... will miss the 30mpg+... still in my name but not in my drive: '67 j100 232cu in (rambo)... has been exiled to centralia due to spousal dislike. 8" of lift, 35's and a camo treatment on an old military jeep doesn't look good to some people... ;) '79 j10 Golden Eagle 360v8 (hooch) ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Dec 2005 22:36:03 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: second (and third) thoughts... I'm thinking that the 2.2L Mazda Diesel into the Willys might not work too well... can't find much info on the engine or the transmission (4spd). It's a great engine, had one... but the other thing that bugs me is it's an interference engine with a timing belt... if I can't find basic info on it what happens if it upchucks a valve? Then I've got to start all over again... ;) That little Pinto engine is just fine... I'm just going to fix the T-90 and use it this way I think... unless someone can verify that the 2.2L Diesel would bolt up to the bellhousing that mates to the Pinto 2.0L / t-90 and I wouldn't have to do anything really creative with the clutch... got my starter relay tonight... top shows up next week... Hey, I really need to move this chatter to a Willys list... any suggestions on a list? Or should I plead my case with Mr. Welty and start another list. ;) The 2.2L Diesel won't work in the XJ, that I know... and I'm not sure I want to spend $1,300 for that '85 3.0L with 235,000 miles to start that project. There is a nice clean '92 XJ sport without an engine or wiring that needs a new home... will put you in touch with my friend... also have that '96 4.0L and wiring harness here... simple... think simple... change the fluids on the WJs... change the starter relay and top on the Willys... :) clean out the 124... rewire stuff for the trailer, fix the tow bar, get the t-90 and call it good... :) slow breaths, in and out... ;) hmmm... would a 6.2L Diesel fit in the frame of the CJ-2A??? rofl... curtis hurry up man, I'm having Diesel withdrawal... ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Dec 2005 08:48:18 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [db] second (and third) thoughts... bk, that's a fine suggestion (Peugot Diesel), if I had one available locally for $400. :) and it would fit with a xfr case in the CJ-2. :) Actually I've owned one French Turbo Diesel, the 2.1L All aluminum Renault. Wet sleeved, lots of o-rings instead of gaskets, bosch pump, lots of paris-rhone junk, expensive to get parts for, but otherwise a sweet little engine... Because of the rarity of the Mazda 2.2L Diesel, timing belt and oddball issues with mating tranny to transfer case, I think I'm going to stick with the Pinto engine and fix the T-90. It's fun to dream about some of these projects, but when I get into my carport and look at the mess, I realize that taking on some of these projects without a shop is more insane than some of my ideas. :) I think that's what pushed me to buy the WJ instead of a late model XJ. (was teetering on the idea of a gold '98 XJ). The WJ has all the options I'd end up adding to an XJ. The plan at this point is to get the '48 Willys running well with the pinto engine, new top, tan paint, have the two WJs until my J10 is done, then decide which of the three (j10 and 2 wj's) will be up for adoption. I suspect that the white WJ will be available. We'll see how this latest wj behaves, I like it better than the white one... but it'll be my wife's decision. I'm pretty sure I'll prefer my J10 over either of the WJs. :) (hurry up curtis... ;) Will probably keep the CJ-2A as well, it's a nice little project, doesn't take much space, not a temptation to drive daily and is just a lot of fun. Anyone in Seattle looking to build a Diesel XJ though, I know where there is a good driveline available for $1,300 or so, and a nice clean '92 Sport with no engine... :) Someone needs to buy my spare 4.0L, AW4 and other odds and ends... :) john j10, wj, cj2... the plan... j10, wj, wj, cj2, j100, j10, 300d... the reality... :) On Fri, 23 Dec 2005 briankk-at-att.net wrote: >--> -------------- Original message ---------------------- >-->From: john >-->> I'm thinking that the 2.2L Mazda Diesel into the Willys might not >-->> work too well... can't find much info on the engine or the transmission (4spd). >-->> (snip) >-->> john >--> >-->I'd argue for a Peugeot diesel. 2.3 litre, 4 cyl, pushrods, aluminum head, Garrett turbo and Bosche VE pump. Were available with auto tranny or 5-spd. Early ones had gear driven cam, later chain driven cam. The stock Peugeot lays over at about 30 degrees, the Ford (Sierra diesel) version sold in Old Blighty was mounted upright.. >--> >-->Something like 90 hp and 125 lbs of torque from a 450 lb motor, there is an intenet site devoted to converting Land Rovers to use these things. I had one of these things in a Peugeot 505 wagon for a few years, they are as reliable as sunrise. BTW, the auto tranny used the same internal bits as the contemporary BMW (mid 80's). Not quite the power of the 5 cyl Mercedes, but a lot(~200 lbs?) lighter and smaller. >--> >-->IMHO >--> >-->bk >--> ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Dec 2005 17:49:43 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [db] cleaning out derick's car I've been having a blast with this V8... and Quadradrive... you plant your foot into the throttle body, point it and hang on... or is it point it, put... oh never mind, you get the idea... it's literally faster than either of my '68 Mustangs. It beats them by close to a second in 0 to 60 times... I drove the new WK with the 5.7L Magnum, the 4.7L in the WJ's feel quicker, not sure why, but I wouldn't get a 5.7L on a bet... the 4.7L V8 is the best engine Jeep ever put in a vehicle... the 4.0L I-6 is the next best... and then the 2.5L I-4. it's a long way to the next good engine... which would probably be the 4.2L I-6 (258), which was the predecessor to the 2.5 and 4.0 engines. The 3.7L V6 derivative of the 4.7L is a pathetic waste of metal, amazingly gutless... Anyway, compared to what was a very fast 2.5L Turbo Diesel, this WJ is a rocket ship... it's about 15 to 20% faster than my 4.0L Grand Cherokee... it's amazingly quick. I topped off the tank, and if the previous owner used the trip odometer it got just over 14 mpg. I stopped and bought all my amsoil fluids, if it stops raining long enough I'll do an oil change... the computer (liar) claims 17.7 mpg average, but it's overly optimistic, mislead and deceived. ;) I did drive 30 miles and the gauge didn't move. :) That's encouraging... ;) Shadowfax was indeed the nicest car I've ever owned. An amazing piece of engineering that worked well in every area. Handled well, braked well, rode well, quiet, comfortable... sweet ride... Derick, take good care of it, ya never know when I'll be toggling back. :) I have been enjoying the WJ, good visibility in traffic, and that amazingly quick V8... I can pull out, nail it and pass traffic almost immediately... :) After I get this thing switched over to amsoil I should see 21 mpg on the freeway... in town I'll be happy if I get 15. I'll be ecstatic if I see 16. But with a 10 mile commute, there's more to life then fuel economy. :) The benz served me well for all the driving I had to do. I was able to save a lot of money in commuting costs and travels to the bay area. If my wife liked it more it wouldn't be going, but she has never liked it... never wanted to drive it... oh well... her loss. ;) john On Fri, 23 Dec 2005, Edward Pomeroy wrote: > -->John > --> > -->Let us all know what kind of mileage that V8 delivers.
