(new horn, new battery, new belt and a bunch of little things including tires) The good stuff is 4.0L HO, AW4, NP231 tcase, D30 front and 8.25" rear (probably 3.55 but mat be 3.73 because it has the factory tow package) nice interior but the front seats need cleaning. Grey and woodgrain inside with black outside. Motor oil and trans fluid were just changed. AM/FM cassette "premium sound package". Not so good: peeling clear coat on the hood, 250,000 miles and the motor is starting to make noises. Clear coat on hood is peeling and front right of bumper and right rear door have dings. build your truck right the first time! http://messenger.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200471ave/direct/01/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 10:57:30 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: the '48 Willys and other projects 1948 CJ-2A: - ----------------------- took these shots on Friday afternoon at maaco in everett... they had to shoot the inside of the tub a second time so it'll be Monday before I can bring it home... some assembly will be required. :) Glad I went with white, lots of imperfections in the body that we couldn't see when it was red. Waiting for the parts ordered from Walck's 4wd. Ordered new windhshield gaskets and seals, 12v wipers, hood blocks, etc... Will put it all together... mechanical repairs remaining: starter, T-90, brakes... might rewire it and install new gauges, we'll see... If I like driving the '48 CJ-2A I may consider finding a 4 cylinder Diesel and Automatic for it and setting it up that way... might even change the gears so it'll go faster than 45mph... ;) - ----------------------- 1999 WJ Laredo (4.7L) Here's the pictures of the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's I put on yesterday: http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/WJ-tires/Revos/ Even though this thing has 129,600 miles on it it's running great, reasonable economy (~16mpg), very fast... only project left on it is moving the leather seats out of the other '99 Wj before we sell it, wax it and use it... ahhhhh a vehicle that doesn't require anything... (almost like my old '91 300D was, but without the 30mpg feature... ;) - ----------------------- 1983 J10 Stepside (getting a 6.2L Diesel/700r4) Here's the last major work done on Superdawg: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/superdawg-2005/ALL.html shouldn't be too much longer now... soon as the shop is wired, insulated, etc. then it can be painted (same color as the CJ and my wife's '99 WJ Laredo (4.0L) Jeep Stone White. Should get 20mpg commuting... then we'll sell my wife's '99 WJ with the 4.0L and she'll take the 4.7L V8 Laredo I'm driving now. Superdawg has only been in work about 5 years... had a "few" delays on this project, however, because of the delays have had time to change plans and engines... went from the original 4.0L driveline to the 6.2L Diesel setup... this way I won't be able to sit back and say, "should have had a V8". ;) - ----------------------- I need to go out and jumpstart my son's old '87 xj and hide it in the upper drive until my friend and I can find the time to pull the T-90 out of his Willys and move all this iron around. :) http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2005/Dec-10-Willys-n-misc/used-XJ-2.jpg It's raining lightly in Snohomish, still need to go out and clean up the carport and get ready for the Willys to return... need to clean the throttle body on my wife's '99 WJ, fix the exhaust system on my daughter's car and finish modifying the '75 J10 hydraulic dump trailer... organize my tools, get rid of unneeded stuff... what a mess... ...maybe I'll just make another latte and watch some movies saved on Tivo... ;) (or wait until my wife finds me... oh yeah, that's right, need to fix that chandelier in the house... ah yes, saturday... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 13:17:51 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: RE: the '48 Willys and other projects On Sat, 21 Jan 2006, Tesar Landon-r16884 wrote: >-->John, can you send the link to the Willys getting painted? (my old '91 300D)... 257 miles on a tank... 14 mpg... shadowfax's worst was about 28mpg, and that was with a leaking fitting... ;) well, Derick (the guy that bought shadowfax when I bought the '99 WJ) and I have been having some challenges with credit unions getting them to take each others checks, requiring derick to drive all the way up here to sign it an additional place... meanwhile my credit union has made me wait for the funds... crazy... it's like these two organizations don't own phones that can communicate with each other or something. Anyway, that's still not as crazy as what Derick and I have decided to do... I've decided to buy Shadowfax back... Derick is fine with it and while it's going to cost me a bunch in sales tax and title transfer fees I'll make that up in fuel savings... My wife is encouraging me to get the Benz back... I think she was shocked that it went away so quickly... thankfully she likes my WJ so that means her white WJ goes away... :) Yes, that means that the white '99 WJ with the 4.0L is officially for sale. Checked with a dealer and he said to price it at $9995.00. It's only got 80,000 miles on it, 4.0L / AT/NP242, excellent tires, very clean, new shocks and rear brakes, new water pump and fan setup, Amsoil in the crankcase. 18.3 mpg going over to Leavenworth. The white Laredo came from a Jeep dealership in Everett, it's a local Jeep, all updates and recalls have been done. Rust is not an option here. We've put about 5,000 miles on it since Aug 2004... we paid $11,500 for it... man prices sure drop quick on these things... :) We're going to keep my '99 WJ with more miles and the V8... it has a hitch and sunroof. :) I'm really happy with it... except of course for it's little drinking problem. ;) It's fast and tows my '75 J10 trailer without a thought... just put new tires on it, had the entire driveline switched over to amsoil and it's doing superb... just not economical... ;) That also means that when my J10 is done that the '48 Willys CJ-2A will be pushed out of the nest... I don't think I'm going to sell the Benz again, and after all this time I'm not parting with Superdawg, so that leaves the Willys up for adoption. My wife is a very tolerant and patient woman, but after 30 years I know how many toys I'm permitted... and I'm already pretty much over my limit... ;) I've got quite a bit into the Willys at this point... not sure on a price yet until I get it reassembled after the paint, get the new top on it, install the wipers and seals, fix the starter, etc. I had it painted before any finishing touches were put on the body because I didn't want it to rust, mold or otherwise deteriorate. Only non-stock items are the 4 cyl engine and windshield. I'm looking forward to completing that project... it's going to be very nice... Also have a '92 XJ sport that is getting an engine... would sell it right now with the engine out for $1,200, very clean... have tow bar, will deliver... fuel extra... ;) So, it looks like I'll be back to driving a car again... or will be later next week, unless of course Derick changes his mind and decides to keep the '91 300D... which is certainly within his rights... I'll miss the accleration of the 4.7L V8, but the 2.5L TD isn't a slug either... all this craziness wouldn't happen if two conditions existed: 1) car makers sold vehicles with Diesel engines with the setup I want and 2) I could actually afford them if they did offer them... in the meantime, I have to build my own and have several variations. ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2573 **************************
