My 85 drove me home from a farm implement junk yard with a Holley Pro Jection system on it, it ran, just not well. I pulled that whole crap off and replaced it with a 650 vac secondary Holley carb I had laying around. I knew the 650 worked. I sold the projection on Ebay, and it paid for 1/2 the truck! I'm sure if I had more fiddle time, I coulda made it work better, but I had snow to move and no heat to fiddle in. As far as the pressure, it's been raining and I've been job hunting so the GW has been put on back burner status. I have 2 gages in the truck, one the stock electrical and one mechanical, and they both concur there is only 7 psi! I'm going to change oil and filter to see if that fixes the problem next week. If not, then I'll wait for more sunshine and install a new oil pump. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Mar 2006 18:52:28 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: fsj: Oil filters and evil Holley Pro Jection. if the engine was rebuilt in the past there is a good chance that the cam bearings might be the cause of the lower pressure... others are far more knowledgeable about this than I am... The used to use salt and sand back in the day, then went to mostly sand for awhile before they figured out that it was the major source of the brown cloud that would hang around Denver during the winter. So now that they control burn days and very moderat use of sand, plus mag chloride, plus a salt water solution, things are livable. The worse thing about mag chloride is the corrosion caused to the magnesium alloy wheels prominate on most cars/trucks these days. If applied properly, within a few minutes prior to an upcoming snow storm, it's very effective in keeping ice from forming and CDOT says that it's greatly reduced the number of traffic accidents compared to prior usage years. If applied too soon, and the snow never comes, it can create a bit of surface slickness that some folks claim causes accidents too, but CDOT seems to have educated their troops pretty well over the years and kept up with the application techniques that work best. Another downside from mag chloride use is the run-off as it coats the tree roots and such and seems to kill trees too close to the roadside. With your infrequent snowfall, I'd think that the benefits would be good and the cons would be minimal there in WA. We've written a few stories in our paper on this back in 2004 or 2005 that you could probably find in our archives.
