A: You need to use the 4.0L starter and flexplate. The flexplate needs to be balanced for the 360 motor. Double check the size/depth of the pilot hole in the crank (I think it was '93 and later 4.0Ls that were changed for the AX-15) Someone on the AMC-list did it with a 2wd AMC car. From: john Subject: fsj: AW4 to a 360? I'm thinking... I have a good 360 with a bad 727, and I have a bad 4.0 with a good AW4.... my son and his friend figured out how to make the AW4 shift manually, so I don't care about the computer... What would it take to mate my Aisin Warner 30-80LE to an AMC 360? Are they about the same length? I have an adapter to mate an AW4 to an FSJ xfr case... hmmm... this sounds good... thoughts? john _________________________________________________________________ Use your PC to make calls at very low rates https://voiceoam.pcs.v2s.live.com/partnerredirect.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2006 19:31:08 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: RE: AW4 to a 360? how does one balance a 4.0L flexplate for a 360? would the shop know? how does it index to the crank??? john On Thu, 19 Oct 2006, Jim Blair wrote: > -->A: You need to use the 4.0L starter and flexplate. Take the 4.0L flexplate and the 360 flexplate to Perpetual Balance in Mukilteo (that's where I had my stroker balanced) It might be an idea to double check the flexplate bolts to the V8. I know they bolt on the other way (my '83 Cherokee Elmo's 4.2L had a 360 flexplate which vibrated the engine to death before I got it) how does one balance a 4.0L flexplate for a 360? would the shop know? how does it index to the crank??? john _________________________________________________________________ Try Search Survival Kits: Fix up your home and better handle your cash with Live Search! http://imagine-windowslive.com/search/kits/default.aspx?kit=improve&locale=en-US&source=hmtagline ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 09:25:26 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: fsj: XJ V6 info More Chev 2.8L V6 (and other sizes) info http://60degreev6.com/ Jim Blair, Seattle, WA '84 J10 Black Jack (getting lifted and stroked!), '73 J4000 304/TH400/QT tow truck http://www.virtualjeep.com AMC list subscription options link http://www.amxfiles.com/amc-list/options.cfm _________________________________________________________________ All-in-one security and maintenance for your PC. Ick, run away!! Worst engine ever, based on personal experience. I'm told their 2.5 (4cyl) is even worse, but I can't imagine much worse. Horribly slow and underpowered, lots of mechanical and quality problems.
