I know that the Benz is worth more in reality than the '00 XJ, although book values are nearly identical... at this point a straight trade would save sales tax and the issue of where I was going to come up with the money... HOWEVER, I know there are folks on the list that have expressed interest in Shadowfax... so, if I move forward on the XJ, is there anyone interested in the Benz on a cash basis? I know most of you think I'm probably crazy for parting with the 300D, and maybe I am... but the 300D won't tow my trailer, the seats are miserable for long trips and of course there is the Rube Goldberg Design Award for the climate control... but still, 30 mpg in town is pretty sweet. With a 10.2 mile one way drive to work, the extra $86.34 per month in gasoline vs. Diesel (assuming $3 for both) will be partially offset by savings in insurance. So, if you're interested in the '91 300D with the 2.5L TD, email me ASAP at dieseljohn-at-comcast.net... I'll check email before meeting the guy with the XJ tomorrow at 1pm. The reason the kid wants to sell the XJ is something with better economy... he's going to school. Even if this one doesn't work out, there is the black '01 that I will be looking at later this week... (thinking upgrading interior of the '00 with the leather seats from the '01). No final decisions yet... still exploring options in light of horrific delays in the dream Full Size Jeep department. I talked with my wife, and she's all for ONE nice vehicle and sell off the fleet... keeping the '99 WJ, a nice XJ, the CJ and either the trailer or the J10... I'm still clinging to the ridiculous fantasy that my J10 will be reassembled and configured with the 6.2L Diesel. Seeing as how I have no other earthly options with the J10 now, all I can do is hope and wait... and continue stock piling Veggie Oil for the glorious day the dawg comes home... Still waiting to hear on the counter offer on the '91 GW as well... may take a day off work and fix up Omega and put him on ebay... back to homework. :) later, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2007 14:20:57 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: more butter for your popcorn? just test drove the 2000 XJ. not impressed. very nice rig, clean... had been in a minor front end crash... tires aren't stock... steers hard, brakes are weak (typical), vague feel, claustraphobic feel with the roof console... looking at the 2001 on thursday, will probably get and fix that one because it's a bargain and use it until my J10 is done... sure, I'm delusional and optimistic at the same time. :) No way would I part with Shadowfax for that '00 XJ. Need to figure out to make the seat comfortable for my wife. john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2007 16:10:22 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: xj: the later XJs that's not all the late model XJs apparently have issues with. it didn't feel right to me... steering was heavy, brakes humble, acceleration less than exciting... no foot room, claustraphobic inside... I think I'll test drive a '96, see if I can find a Country model. I really like the looks of the '97 and up XJ, but this is the 2nd or 3rd I've checked out and not been happy. I took apart the dash in the '93 I parted and didn't notice it being different, but that rig was twisted up a bit. I'll have an AX-15/NP208J combo to sell soon (has Dana 300 adapter ring to make it work) Gotta PAY taxes this year (what? The $5,000 or so they took from our paychecks wasn't enough?) and I didn't make it to the swapmeet to sell (was great for buying tho. I think the rain threat kept a LOT of buyers away) There were LOTS of FSJ stuff there! Some near pristine fenders (GW and plain jane Cherokee full size) for like $20 each, complete with inner fenders! Too bad no wide track or Jtruck ones in similar condition, but I did get 5 BFG TAs 33/9.50/15s that will be delivered next saturday for $200 w/o rims, but with -at-75% tread..
