My son's Javelin has a Ford 460, he sold it to a friend, but it's still here, for another week or two. My Diesel powered '91 Grand Wagoneer is doing great. My first Jeep! A 1986 Grand Wagoneer, the previous owner had the wood trim stripped off and had it squirted (by Maaco unfortunatly) Chrysler Gold. Not perfect but it looks kind of retro. I will post pictures in a few days. Work done in the first week: Proper throttle cable installed; 4WD system and Hi/Low shifter excercised for the first time in years; passed DEQ and registered; Carburetor out for rebuild to correct a flakey choke and a frozen accelerator pump; parts list made out to replace all the door and window seals; ordered a copy of the Factory Service Manual; bought parts for rear shoulder belt upgrade (gotta protect the babies); FJS stickers ordered. A few questions though: Why did the 1986 wagoneers go with the 228 transfer case instead of using the 229? I have a few exhaust leaks to fix, if I get too involved I will probably switch to headers. Any recommendations? The front seats need to be re upholstered and I can't find replacement skins, any experience or suggestions? Thanks in advance. GAS Gregg A. It's an AMC 360 thing, you'll be tightening intake /exhaust bolts until you put something else in it. :) bjsoffroad is a good source for a lot of that stuff. :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com ** http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Fri, 18 Apr 2008, griggy-at-dslnorthwest.net wrote: # My first Jeep! # # A 1986 Grand Wagoneer, the previous owner had the wood trim stripped # off and had it squirted (by Maaco unfortunatly) Chrysler Gold. I think that the 228 does have the differential as the front axle doesn't have the disconnect on the left front, at least mine doesn't. From what I've read about the 229, that would spell disaster. Just curious...
