Found out later it was a bank in Texas. At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his drivers side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling. Mark Ivy of Texas State Bank stated that the main lobby would be open for business while the drive in is being repaired. The small econoboxes from Honda were getting very good mileage in the 80's. We had a civic wagon getting 35ish, yes a wagon, worked on some bad forestry roads.... a friend w a similar model was getting a bit more. I was never impressed w the VW..... always electrical issues.... One of my kid bought a new beetle some years ago.... wo asking for my biased input..... came w dealer warranty... and the trany went up after 3 weeks at 22Kmiles, there were some other electrical issues as well.... Same search here as well for friendlier transportation, the moto is nice... but the drivers are a bit insane: too many distractions. I may end up w the YJ (4cyl, noisy and uncomfortable as can be) when one of my daughters graduates from college in 6 months, a jeep w a moto feeling.... 20 mpg.... which is better than 12 in town w the FSJ and not as good as the moto at 36. But after a few close calls.... an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Of course the other daughter will soon had a real paying salary and want to upgrade her civic w A/C that gets 40 mpg... so i may go for that.... A/C and FM radio w 3 point seat belt and reclining seats.
