Fitted into three standard-production E320 CDI models, the 224-horsepower engine, set to replace the existing five- and six-cylinder inline engines beginning in summer 2005, covered distances of 100,000 km, 50,000 miles and 100,000 miles respectively in world-record times. More important, especially to Mercedes, it did so without any technical problems, which will help restore some gloss to Mercedes' tarnished brand image. The 100,000 miles was covered at an astonishing average speed of 139.699 mph b^T the best ever recorded by any car. ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 07:27:06 +0000 From: michel balea Subject: RE: fsj: Mercedes Diesels Great news for the MB team. Let's be critical..... on a big oval.... how often did they shift gears.... which gearing... median RPM.... The engine is at constant temp.... never having time to go thru cooling cycles.... a bit like the mercedes cab in Europ, the cars run day and nite and can go over 300k without any issues.... Yes the average speed is impressive. It is true that the car business is hurting, and that the whole economy is so dependent on "one" product. WHAT is it with the later model WJs having engine issues??? 4.7L V8... mine has 154k on it and is as smooth as butter and runs flawlessly... quick, responsive and on the freeway reasonably economical... Thought the 4.7L V8 was a superb engine... what did Chrysler do to it after '99???? We tried to sell our '99 WJ after I got the '94 K1500 Blazer with the 6.5L Diesel... no one even came out and looked... there's a number of them for sale dirt cheap... We decided to keep it... Which brings me to my question... Any idea on how hard it would be to mate a Mercedes Diesel to the 45RFE transmission? :) there's a couple of WJs on CL with bad engines for cheap... or, maybe I would use a nice 4.0L. In my '99 WJ with the 4.0 it had the 42RE, not a good setup... gas mileage was as bad as the V8, actually worse on the freeway... turns out the 42RE is the trans they used in the ZJ that everyone had trouble with. So, I'm trying to decide if I'm going to drop an engine my '83 J10 stepside, or get a WJ and make it a Diesel... or sell off my projects and Blazer and get a nice WJ and use the proceeds to pay for the extra fuel costs. ;) Anyone in Europe have a line on the Diesels they used in the WJ over there? What auto transmission was used in the CRD WJs? keep the popcorn poppin'... shop is almost ready for the next project... installing a hitch on my J10 trailer for the barrel lift this weekend. ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 17:49:44 -0700 From: Jim Blair Subject: fsj: Re: xj: if only.. Really unique describes BMax's new '63 Scout 80 with a Ford 250/C4 (2wd) swapped in. Trying to figure out the best way to "upgrade" it for the best bang for the buck. I figure CJ7 Widetrack axles would work in place of the D27s currently in it (with the increased strength, tighter turning radius AND braking power!) Probably an early Bronco Spicer 20 tcase would be the best swap to get it to 4x4.
