(yay, right?) well, the catch is that i sourced every new seal and guide i could for the entire door, except for one window guide. it's the guide that sits on the trailing edge of the divider bar between the main door window and the vent window. that guide is actually part of the entire frame assembly for the vent window. can't find it anywhere. i've searched far and wide for that thing, but to no avail, and the felt pads on the vent window i'm using are all but gone, which would cause the main window to ride in what is effectively a bare metal channel. welp, i found a company that makes numerous types of window slides, guides, pads, etc, and sat at my computer with the vent window assy and my calipers in-hand and searched their site for material until i bought what i thought might work. (they have a very good site, btw, with pics and mechanical drawings!) the parts came in and i spent all of two nights ago drilling out a plethora of rivets and disassembling the vent window frame and various brackets that hold the assy to the door shell. and i spent last night cutting down the blank stock that i got to the right length and drilling the holes needed to house the rivets and rebuilding the whole assy. (much easier said than done, btw) and then i stuck it in the door!!!!! i know, it doesn't sound like much, but if any of you have tried to find that part, you know it doesn't technically exist in the aftermarket. and there's no way i was going to have a "new" '76 j-truck with a window that screeches and scratches on metal every time i want to open or close it. one small step for man, one giant leap for FSJ builders! i'm even thinking of seeing if i can get a bulk discount on the blank stock and making new divider bars to sell to all those who have searched for that seal but can't find it. hmmmm...... now on to the driver's side tonight, and then retrofitting new power window regulators and locks! I've purchased those parts new, but can't remember when or where... does bjs have anything like that? pictures? :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://freegift.com http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Wed, 11 Feb 2009, Neal Hoover wrote: # i guess when you put it to words, it sounds like a small step, but it's # kinda HUGE for me! # last night i completed rebuilding the passenger side vent window and getting # it mounted in the door! # (yay, right?) # well, the catch is that i sourced every new seal and guide i could for the # entire door, except for one window guide. it's the guide that sits on the # trailing edge of the divider bar between the main door window and the vent # window. that guide is actually part of the entire frame assembly for the # vent window. can't find it anywhere. i've searched far and wide for that # thing, but to no avail, and the felt pads on the vent window i'm using are # all but gone, which would cause the main window to ride in what is # effectively a bare metal channel. # welp, i found a company that makes numerous types of window slides, guides, # pads, etc, and sat at my computer with the vent window assy and my calipers # in-hand and searched their site for material until i bought what i thought # might work.
