The gauges appear to need a 5v regulator of some kind. http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Apr_25_dash_update/ALL.html slipped the barrel lift onto the tug and loaded an empty barrel and headed off for the first (and quite possibly the last) Waste Veggie Oil run. Picked up one very full 55 gallon drum and about 10 buckets... not sure of the total weight but it's probably around 700lbs back there... one problem I had was getting the legs that support the lift back up after loading the barrel... that was fun. :) even with my wife standing on the front bumper I couldn't get the weight off of them. luckily I had a pretty substantial board in the back to whack it out of the way. all that weight in the back really made the ride pretty choppy, but we did get all the frame and bed out of the way, had full wheel travel. The tug moved along only slightly slower than usual, which would make a 240D or a City Bus seem like a dragster in comparison... anyway, while the lift and bed worked, it is simply not as easy to use as my J10 pickup trailer, or the J10 itself... trying to move a full barrel in a 4'x5' bed filled with other stuff was simply not an activity I care to do again... I need a real truck. :) The tug is a lot of fun to drive, but it's simply not a pickup. As a good friend has said, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should". :) http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Apr_25_1st_WVO_adventure-part1/ALL.html tomorrow I make the run up to Arlington to empty the tug... 30 miles of highway driving with a full load... my wife has declared she's not riding in the tug ever again... but she liked the seat... :) moved my daughter this morning with the WJ, her XJ and my J10 trailer, also picked up a pair of leather xj seats for my '83 J10 stepside... http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/04-Apr-25-misc-moving-wvo/ALL.html I think my current plan is to finish refining the tug and driving it until I have a Diesel drivetrain for my '83 J10 Stepside... the tug is fun, but it's going away as soon as someone walks up with cash or my J10 is done. :) I'd trade the tug straight up for a nice late model XJ at this point... or maybe an older Diesel 4x4 Pickup... guess future WVO runs will involve the WJ and the J10 trailer... just so much easier... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Apr 2009 21:07:16 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: RE: fsj: cummins 6at in an xj or my j10? what about size? will it fit in the hole for the 4.0? would be sweet if it did, just picked up a nice seat of leather xj seats.. ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Sat, 25 Apr 2009, Jim Blair wrote: # The 292 is about 50 lbs heavier than the 4.0L (I can pick up both longblocks # but can't carry them as far as I used to!) Skagit Valley... http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/04-Apr-26-Tulips-MtVernonWA-WVO-BioDiesel/ALL.html Driving home on Saturday with about 80 gallons of WVO was somewhat miserable... I was thinking that the tug project was a bust... started looking into the idea of getting a real Diesel pickup... but, after thinking about it I realized that the frame was sitting on the axle from the weight... so I popped in a pair of overload springs and the ride up to Arlington to exchange the WVO for BioDiesel was much improved... my wife rode in the tug again... it wasn't much further up I-5 to a Popeyes Chicken and the tulip fields... so off we went on part two of the WVO adventure... the tug rode much better with the overload springs and we enjoyed the nice weather... encountered heavy traffic near Mt.Vernon... guess we weren't the only ones with the idea of visiting Popeyes, or the tulip fields... Popeyes was out of cole slaw!!! pictures from the WVO/BioDiesel part: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Apr_26_WVO_adventure-part2/ALL.html part 1 of the WVO, in case you missed it: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Apr_25_1st_WVO_adventure-part1/ The repairs to the instrument cluster mostly worked, still need to get the temp gauge and fuel gauge working... applied 12v to both terminals A and I, should have worked, but didn't, pegged the needles, will modify an ipod USB adpater to provide 5v and try it again... the saga of the cluster is here: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Apr_25_dash_update/ALL.html http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/0_best-of-CJ-10A.html john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3316 **************************
