The 6 cyl is reasonably robust and revs higher than the truck version so it's power band is longer. I can't recall if it's an IDI motor or not. I know the 4 cyl is. (They actually had a TBI version of the diesel! Talk about slow!) See if you can get a picture of the trans pan and that will ID it for sure as AW4 or Jatco. I think it would be good in an XJ with the right ratio. Find out what the Maxima's ratio is as well as tire size and I'll tell you what ratio to make the XJ to match power/speed. There is no 700R4 that will bolt up (or there would be some very excited Buick enthusiasts!) but there is a 200R4 which can be beefed (but only comes in 2WD) Actually, there is one, but it was only used a couple years in military Olds V8 converted diesels. - ---------------------------------------- > From: joe-at-j-hughes.com > To: fsj-at-digest.net > Subject: fsj: 1950 Willys Wagon (Wife's Willys) > Date: Sun, 10 May 2009 12:55:54 -0700 > > Pictures (mostly of spare parts): > > http://www.hughes-family.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2157 > > > > Short term plans: > > Find a TH700 to put behind the buick 231 V6, preferably with a passenger > side transfer case.
