I was almost 65 mph up donner pass on a cold morning w the moto trailer, but as soon as I reached the 6500 foot level.... I was crawling at 40 mph. See http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t18_t19.htm # # On the puting the diesel in front of the T5, I would not. The T5 is the lightest transmission ever put into a FSJ or CJ. They have a very bad performance reputation in CJ's and do not survive well with strong 6 cylinders or even a mild V8's. I would think it would be marginal at best behind the diesel. 35" tires (do you really have only 3.07 gears with this large of tire?) will put too much stress on the transmission and I cannot believe the engine would be in the propper rpm range for power. Besides, 35" tires with 3.07 gears is like having a 2.63 axle ratio so you will never get the T5 in 5th gear! I have a T5 in my Scrambler behind a stock 258 and run 35" BFG All Terrains on FSJ Dana 44 axles with 4.10 gears. 5th gear is strickly an Interstate gear and the Jeep struggles to hold 70 mph on the slightest hill or with a head wind. My Commando, on the other hand, has the same FSJ axles with 3.73 gears and 39" tires with a built 4.3 V6 with a TF999. The V6 has close to 275 horses and it will hold 80 mph all day hills, wind or whatever. Point being, hp and gearing are inversely related for most vehicles. Powerful engines do not need low gearing, weak/light engines do. The SD33 Patrols are a case in point, stock gearing for 31" tires was 4.80. Same with the Wranglers, stock gear on 4.2 6 cylinder was 3.54, 4 cylinder had 4.10. # # Pick up an AX15 5 speed and transfer case, much better transmission and transfer case than a T5 and Dana 20 plus you still have OD. If your front axle is a passenger side drop you can get a clocking ring and adapt a Dana 300 to the AX15. If you go diesel with the 35" tires I would regear to not less than 4.88 and recommend 5.13or 5.38. # # # # --- In CJ-10List-at-yahoogroups.com, diesel john wrote: # > # > # > have a T18 from a 1980 J10. # > The NP208 is in my '86 cj-10a now...
