I met with a owner yesterday..... Otherwise I was looking at the Sj production over the years and found this in the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Wagoneer Around the world In Finland, starting in the late-1970s, Wagoneers were usually sold with a Valmet 411 Diesel engine (4.4 Litres Max. power 82 hp (61 kW) DIN at 2200 rpm, torque 306 N7m (226 ft7lbf) DIN at 1460 rpm ). Typical mileage with this engine was around 29 mpg-US (8.11 L/100 km; 34.83 mpg-imp) and if a turbo was installed by the owner, mileage improved even more 8 L/100 km (35.31 mpg-imp; 29.40 mpg-US) I know 83 hp is nothing to be in admiration of.... but the torque and the mileage.... of course the lower number is the US gallons.... Of course, if you are really serious, look around for a used rotisserie. The current market condition of the auto trade these days, used tools and equipment are practically being given away. Troy Phagan Greeley, CO ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 17:12:19 -0700 (PDT) From: diesel john Subject: fsj: the superdawg strategy the SUPERDAWG strategy... or why the tug will go away soon... very soon... the cj-10a test has gone quite well... worked out nicely... http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/0_best-of-CJ-10A.html The sd33 naturally aspirated Diesel with the 727 shift-kitted pushes the 4,400lbs worth of truncated wagoneer frame acceptably. last three tank average has been a solid 18 mpg, with a peak of 20. Considering it weighs 300 lbs more than my '83 J10 stepside is pretty amazing. It's not fast, but will cruise happily on the freeway at 70 mph. It keeps up fine with traffic once you figure out how to drive it. It starts right up and everything except the fuel gauge and temp gauge work as designed... one thing about the cj-10a, it draws a lot of attention and compliments... it is indeed a cool jeep. I've finally got the suspension dialed, but it still has more "road feel" than I care to experience. However, it's still a barebones utility vehicle and nothing like my '91 300D, or the '99 WJ. I'm tired of wind noise... :) I'm tired of bouncing... it was kind of fun for a while... I guess we all have to let the little kid in us have some fun for a while. :) What's funny is that even without a/c it's cooler (temperature wise) to drive than the 300D with a/c that isn't working right now... actually find it more comfortable to drive in warm weather than the WJ, which has a working a/c... something about sitting up and having a breeze seems more comfortable. I've found a supposedly good SD33T and rebuilt 727 to mate to it for eventual use in my J10. Hope to get over to Idaho in the next few weeks to retrieve all the pieces and parts. I don't expect the SD33T to work, so I have no plans to install it immediately... will bench test it and gather pieces necessary to make it work. If it doesn't work, I'll sell off the bits and pieces and have enjoyed a nice trip to Idaho. :) The SuperDawg stragegy is to finish getting Superdawg (my '83 J10 stepside) reassembled with the 4.2/T-5/NP208/3.54 gears and get him home. Will drive him with the stinky gas engine for a while, then maybe next spring will drop the SD33T/TF727 into him. We'll see... I want to make sure that I can put him back to stock if the SD33T is junk or tanks. I may still try to mate a Mercedes 3.0 or 2.5L Turbo Diesel to my T-5... we'll see what happens... :) The SD33T swap should be very straight forward as the frame, driveshafts and xfr case will all be the same. Wiring changes will be minimal. Only issues will be finding a shifter for the automatic and what to do with the extra pedal in the cab. ;) I'm looking forward to driving a longer wheelbase Jeep that is at least 10 inches wider in the passenger compartment than the CJ-10A and also has less wind noise and has working air conditioning... :) ok curtis, have you found superdawg yet? :) how much longer? :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 19:23:02 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: I love Linux, and like the crew cab... like the crew cab... where can I get one of these? :) http://wagoneers.com/tmp/crewcab/ALL.html got the pictures you sent elliott, and in one line built the web page to view them: - -> mkdir /tmp/crewcab ; mv *.jpg /tmp/crewcab ; cd /tmp/crewcab ; ls *.jpg > ALL.html ; vi ALL.html once in vi all I had to do was hit escape colon and: %s/.*/
