The landcruiser has a 65 amp one (I think), but I can't replace it because the vacuum pump runs off the back of the alternator. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Sep 2009 14:11:14 -0400 From: wallacem7-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: push the start button for three seconds? Somewhere along the line cars have become transportation appliances and as a society we have forgotten how to operate them and that sometimes a contingency plan is necessary and that if we understand how a car operates we can create and execute that contingency plan. That being said I got the accelerator pedal stuck under the aftermarket floor mat on my Dakota the other day. I had pulled the mat out to shake the mud off and didn't put it back in correctly. I remember thinking "i saw this on television the other day" No real big deal...just reached down to the floor pulled up the accelerator, popped the truck into neutral, stopped, set the mat in right and was on my way. I never even shut the truck off I also broke a throttle spring on the Wagoneer at highway speed once, I pulled up the accelerator as best I could, took my exit modulating my speed with the brake, timed out a traffic light, turned into the K-mart parking lot, turned off the key, opened the hood, threaded the broken throttle spring through the hole like putting a key on a key chain and went on to my engineering meeting. I wasn't even late. I would have shut off the key earlier if I ever thought I was endangering anyone. Two differences ...okay three between me and the guy driving the Lexus...one is that I understand what makes a car tick...in the case of the Wag I have rebuilt everything a couple of times, two is that I kept a clear head and continued to drive even though I had lost some control authority, and the third is that I am still quite alive. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Sep 2009 14:19:20 -0400 From: "Neal Hoover" Subject: fsj: Re: push the start button for three seconds? the *real* problem is that common sense just isn't so common and more!!!
