I initially found this problem back in 2006 (loss of a job and a move across country have gotten in the way of my car habit) when I got some three inch lift springs. I have all the nuts for the leaf springs off, and I suspect That I will be fighting with the bolts tomorrow. I will be removing the axle from the frame in it's entirety as I want to space to be able to work under the Jeep. My question is do I have to pull the rear shackles off the frame to get the leaf springs off? Can someone snap me a pic of how the rear leaf spring sits in the shackle in the driver's side? New BFG tires. Serviced at a dealer. Two things in conversation: 1. The starter is held on only by two bolts instead of three, the bellhousing is broken off for the third. It's a 4spd, I believe T178 variety. Is it aluminum? can it be welded? 2. Currently in 2WD. The owner said that something popped when he was putting it on the trailer, and it the transfer case no longer shifts, and maybe it is a bushing. I didn't push for an explanation, what are you doing shifting the transfer case putting it on a trailer anyway? The jury is still out on whether it is shortbed or longbed, I'm guessing shortbed.
