I wonder if these engines will be available in crates... http://www.dieselpowermag.com/news/0803dp_subaru_turbo_diesel/photo_03.html have someone interested in trading a 2002 legacy for my tug... if I could find one of these subura Diesels... oh boy... get the popcorn ready... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Nov 2009 22:29:12 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: fsj: cj-10a fuel economy / throttle experiment in talking to my son about fuel economy he noted that one on little Diesel truck that we both had owned, that he would get considerably better mileage than me... I'd get around 28 or so, he'd get closer to 34... I've had other friends who have purchased Diesels from me with similar results... like one VW pickup Diesel... I'd get 35... my friend got 45... so what have I been doing wrong? :) Well, I guess I've been driving my small Diesels in the "digital mode"... full on, full off... So, I tried driving the tug without standing on the pedal all the time... seeing as how the cj-10a engine isn't exactly a powerhouse, and all... so I figured out how far to push the pedal to the point where it just didn't go any faster and pushing it harder just provided me exercise... checked the mileage today. wow. a noticeable difference, even on biodiesel... the last two tanks on bioDiesel in cooler weather have been around 17 mpg... this tank was 19.2. Now, if you figure the difference between the more recent, weaker BioDiesel (my resturaunt sources have been using lower quality oil to save money) versus what I might expect with pump Diesel... I think the tug would be well into the 20's. My '91 300D on BioDiesel was getting around 25 mpg, vs. it's normal 30 mpg (with me driving), that's about a 16% difference... add that to 19.2 and the tug could see 22 mpg in town with adult operation... This is great news for SuperDawg's setup... provided I keep my foot under control. :) The next test would be to try to drive even more economically, but since the tug is so underpowered and slow already I don't know if I could go any slower without causing traffic problems. ;) fwiw, won't be on line much tomorrow, 34th wedding anniversary... later, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3465 **************************
