I discovered that the tweaked body mount was actually a bend in the origional frame and that needed to be straightened out. Long story short I decided to cut the patch panel into two smaller patches. I tacked the big one that runs from about three inches behind the spring mount in...initially I tacked it in the wrong place so it took two tries. Once I tacked it into the spring mount I was able with not quite enough clamps to pull the bent section of frame straight. Tacked the whole patch in and got about half of the final weld done. I'm by in large happy with the way it fits. I'll grind the weld clean on the outside and probably put doubler plates in certain areas on the inside. The only tell on the outside will be that the radius on the corner of the patch panel is smaller than on the origional frame. You'll have to pull the gas tank to see what else has been done. Maybe get further tomorrow. Sometime I need to dig through my boxes of parts and find the bolts that it will take to re-assemble it including the U-bolts. Is there a good reason why I can't put anti-seize on the leaf spring eye bolts? Has anybody else tried this? I am toying with pulling the body after I have done some substantial repair work on it at which point it would be a cake walk to sandblast and paint the frame. If anyone else wants to see some pics email me offline. The other thought besides cross bracing (I used bed frames scavenged out of the garbage) is that you need the right clamps. I have a number of Vice Grip brand welding clamps of various configurations, but the one I wish I had more of is the deep clamp with pivoting feet. The 'right amount' of clamps as near as I know is not something that can actually be achieved, although when I have the 'right amount' of money, I will then buy the 'right amount' of clamps. I'm going to be shortening a dodge frame for my '50 Willys wagon this winter, so I'm curious to see how you're doing this. Joe H.
