If you are still fighting with the gas tank another thought is to just find where the hard line goes to rubber and run rubber up between the cab and the bed (if you are really industrious you could bend a section of steel pipe too) and run out of a gas can. My Wag is on a two gallon gas can right now, just to move it around the yard. You can tie stuff away from the hot bits with zip ties. AMC used them. Also I have a gauge cluster out of an 83 Wagoneer in one of my parts boxes. I believe everything on it is functional, but it hasn't been used in over a decade. If you want it it's yours for the cost of shipping. The "fill the oil and check the gas" trip is one of the unexplainable things that we do. Edelbrock intakes...I have used the Fel-Pro gaskets for quite a few years. If I recall you use brush tack on the intake openings and RTV around the water openings and you take the end seals in the box and throw them away and seal the ends with the appropriate RTV. I've done it both ways and this way keeps your oil in better. Also your stock air cleaner will hit the hood. Not excessively...mine has been that way since the mid 90's. I have run Carter and Holley carbs over the years. My personal preference for a driver/trailer towing truck is a Carter, (I like metering rods better than power valves) but I drove across the country on several occasions with a vacuum secondary 600 CFM Holley. In a pinch you can use a Fram PH 8A. It's a longer filter, but I recall the threads as being the same. PH 8A seems to be the correct filter for just about any Ford after 1960 so most everybody has them. What didn't fit on the grease gun? Did you need one of the needle attachments for the front driveshaft? Or did a DPO (dreaded previous owner) replace the origional zerks with some odd duck part? What year was this truck again? Thanks. I did. "fill the oil and check the gas" That was me! Left OKC at 9, usually a 6.5 hr trip, got home at 7:30, so 10.5 hrs. Not sure if I'm more disappointed that Wal-Mart won't change oil on anything older than 1988, or that O'Reilly's didn't have an oil filter, and their grease gun didn't fit the u-joints on the truck. As far as the guage cluster is concerned, it's an emotional moment. - - Landon - -clip- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3477 **************************
