Several years ago when i restored sports cars for a living I worked extensively in fiberglass and carbon fiber. I have built the tooling and produced all matters of body parts. If there really is interest I would consider tooling up a new shroud in fiberglass. Another part that I could tool up is the later heater box. A third thought is even to tool the Rhino Chaser Grille in fiberglass. It would paint okay but couldn't be chromed. Could also tool the headlight bezels and vents for that nose if I could get a decent set to pull a mold off of. (I have a Rhino Chaser Grille that I could pull a mold off of, but no headlight bezels and vents) Any interest? The scammers have been combing one of my other old car forums and they always reply with an email about how they have the part/parts you are looking for. One guy asked for Muffler Bearings, Spark Plug Tassles and one other fictitious part and sure enough the scammers had just the parts he was looking for. (They supposedly also had an 80 year old accessory part I was looking for, but couldn't answer a critical question about it) Thousands of hours to repair a frame is way off...the 1972 and earlier SJ frames were even simpler than the later ones. If you have a decently flat floor, a level, a tape measure, a chop saw, a MIG welder, a good collection of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline CDs and a whole lot of patience you could build your own replacement frame. Frame repair like mine has not been the easiest job I have ever done, but it is a totally doable job. I think the worst part of it is due to some injuries I'm no longer that flexible. I might have forty or fifty hours in my frame repair right now (I'm stopped because of snow on the ground and work) but that has also been interruptions where I'll change something I don't like about the shop I am in. (I am in a new to me shop that I am still developing) Mark Wallace 81 Wag ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Dec 2009 00:50:54 +0000 From: Michel Balea Subject: RE: fsj: Fan Shrouds, Frames and scams With a little time and a some space, you can do a frame. I like modern so I would be looking at GM Diesels...and then gotta have the turbos and the Allison...as long as it's apart might as well build a 1000 horse engine, and then the axles are outclassed...and when you really get down to it Wagoneer bodies are primitive and noisy and I really have no use for a 1000 horsepower vehicle driving on the street anyway. I like working on cars more than I like driving them, but the end product really should have a purpose. Take some pics of the body replace and how you lift it off. We'll see how i am doing on time and funds next summer...I may be pulling a body as well. Supposed to be in the 40's...maybe even high 40s by the end of the week next week here so if the snow isn't too bad I'll be back under the Wag. Also got my flairing tool in the mail so I can do my brake pipes and fuel pipes. Now that I think about it I stand a good chance of taking the Wag around the block again in 2009. In a perfect world I would have pulled the body before repairing the frame and I suspect that with even the excessive rot in my Wag's body it could have been done in a week or so but I have enough cars that are very very disassembled and didn't really need one more colossal unfinished project. Don't need any muffler bearings right now...I just realized that the only car I own that has a muffler at all is my work van. Got a couple of Flowmasters kicking around in the to-do pile. Fortunately in New Mexico laws like having mufflers aren't really enforced.
