I use a number of techniques and tools...I use a Milwaukee 4 1/2 inch grinder with a metal cutting abrasive blade. I will typically buy the blades at Home Despot or Lowes. I typically buy either Hilti or DeWalt brand. I like name brand on abrasive cutting wheels...I have seen the cheapies blow apart and I just don't want that hitting me. For more detailed work I will use a Sears Craftsman pneumatic cut off wheel...it has a nice rubber body, but I think the bearings on mine are wearing out. I keep it oiled, but they still seem to be wearing. I use 3M or Norton brand wheels on that one. It's slower than the Milwaukee but it gives better control. I buy the blades ten at a time when I have money. I will also use the sawzall with typically Milwaukee brand blades...they seem to last pretty well. When I am doing sheet metal (body work) I use the Craftsman cut off wheel exclusively. To cut a straight line I clean the metal...I like denatured alcohol, and put down a piece of masking tape on the inside edge of where I need to cut. I cut along the edge of the masking tape leaving the tape more or less intact. With body work I like to do butt welds...they are much cleaner, use less filler (if any filler at all and don't have a trap of road debris to get caught in. For safety equipment I will wear my regular safety glasses, my ear plugs and a welding hat (I have no hair)...I won't even go under a car without a welding hat. If I can't keep the sparks out of my face (funny angle, etc) I will add a full face shield. Sometimes I wear one of those stylish green fire resistant jackets that you can get at the welding supply store. I also pretty much live in ear plugs even though I am half deaf already. Required full sized Jeep content...a new guy came to one of my Bidnessmens groups and he had a 1970 Wagonner, three on the tree, Buick 350 30,000 original miles, the seats had had seat covers since new so they were almost brand new. It was pretty awesome. I think I'll move the wag out the the way and pull the front shackles as well. Order some new bushings for those. Maybe get some new sway bar bushings as well. Anybody done those on a bench vice? Anybody ever rebuilt one of these Saginaw power steering boxes? How hard is it? The frame is black now...when I look at it in the light tomorrow we'll see if I missed any spots. I guess pretty soon I will start combing the want ads for a decent set of used BFG AT's in a 31x10.50 size.
