I'm glad you kept Murphy mostly busy yesterday. He still got to my cabin in time to whisk away the 727 I've been waiting several weeks to go get, but he didn't have time to bring on today's monsoon! As for the trans, I would look for a BB Mopar to T5 bell so you could use the current adapter you already have. AFAIK, they didn't use an SAE to T5 and I've never seen any on Advanced or elsewhere (doesn't mean there isn't one) I have a big block Mopar SAE bell (and a pair of flywheels. 8 bolt and 6 bolt crank) On the P0442 code, it could be as simple as the gas cap not on tight or the O ring is worn and seeping air. The current 20-30% alcohol in our "winter" fuel is causing ALL kinds of problems lately! Some stations are still adding their own additive packages AFTER the fuel comes premixed with alcohol in it. The Ford small blocks mostly came with the the Toyo Kogyo 5 speed from Mazda. A total POS! Yea, I can't imagine the 6BT with a 1/2 ton frame, axles and springs. Nice thing about the buses they have an Allison transmission instead of the wimpy 47RH or 48RE that they have in the Dodge's. I think the 4BT in my FSJ chassis is just right, plenty of power, less weight and shouldn't be too much for the 44's. Now if I could just find a Ford ZF 5-speed for it... Anyone have a 88+ Ford with a small block or I6 with a 5-speed they don't need? I Checked the local pull-a-parts this last weekend and surprisingly struck out. I thought it was going to be an easy find. A nice feature for a winch install is to be able to move it to the back hitch.... I know we are supposed to be wheeling with others, but if stuck you need to be able to go back.... sometimes. So any ideas on the best way to install a front hitch? I already got a nice square front a montero, now I need to install a matching plate and braces on the front. Michel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Dec 2010 11:25:17 -0700 From: Troy Phagan Subject: Re: fsj: Re: winches The most common way to do this of course is with the multi-carrier. (A winch in a cradle that fits in a 2" receiver hitch.) Normally, you can get a FRONT mounted receiver hitch for many vehicles. We use this system, and have the ability to put the winch on various vehicles, and have welded a receiver to the front of our car trailer, too. The problem is that I don't know of any front mount receiver hitches for an FSJ. Unless you get a full bumper replacement from someone like BJ's http://www.warn.com/truck/mounting-systems/multi_mount.shtml http://www.bjsoffroad.com/cartgenie/subcategory.asp?category=20 So, the question for the list is: does anyone know of a front mount receiver hitch for an FSJ? I have checked several sources and do not know of any. FYI: Valley towing and other companies carry a small receiver sleeve that can be added / welded on to trailers, RV bumpers etc. Of course, you can always cannibalize an existing receiver hitch no longer being used, or from the junk yard, etc. On 12/8/2010 9:11 AM, Michel Balea wrote: > A nice feature for a winch install is to be able to move it to the > back hitch....
