A couple shots of gasoline down the carb, and it behaved as if it was just sleeping. Oil pressure came right up. No leaks that I see so far. Though, I've only run it in one spot. The loud 'knocking' noise is gone. so it was the timing chain. now I just hear all the other noises. I'm only running 10W-30 until down with shakedown. Maybe some 15W-40 will quiet things. I didn't get to prime the oiling from the drill to the oil pump method (distributor was stubborn to remove) but sounded smoother once the oil circulated. Really very smooth compared to how it was before. Looking forward to driving it! My wife surprised me for our 15th anniversary, we're going to San Fran for the weekend. Yes, do have some pictures. Will send them. Lots of lessons learned. Most enlightening process was assembling the timing cover and oil pan together, and accepting the engineering that went into the gasket structure, as well as the critical dimensions of the timing cover. Really you need to let the timing cover position the oil pan, not the other way around. So put the oil pan and all the gaskets into place but do not button it up until the timing cover is located. I cut a couple bushings to make up space where a boss existed on the old timing cover, does not exist on the 4.0 replacement. Do not! take the shortcut to pull the harmonic balancer without the piece on the end of the puller bolt that keeps it pressing only against the end of the cranskshaft. The shortcut is not moving / removing the radiator. The puller bolt will find its way into the end of the crankshaft and may damage threads there. This is not something you want to do. Those threads are needed to get the balancer back on. On Mar 11, 2011, at 2:37 AM, john wrote: > Outstanding! Pictures? > > Have a nice trip to SF, you should call for a fest. The jetta wagon is getting around 40 in town, but I'm not using biod or wvo, I will in superdawg so it'll be about the same cost to run. But who knows when it'll happen.
