(I got rid of the Wag for other reasons, then started to grow up.....or old). If only the glass were to be replaced in this manor, the result would be like a hatch-back (on a pickup camper shell). I caught a glimps of an FSJ here in Southern Oregon "customized" in this way. Unfortunately, I was in a situation where I couldn't flag down the owner and get a closer look at the execution. I'll keep my eye's peeled. On FSJ's, the way the sheet metal surfaces present themselves, it looks like a natural. My 1980 narrow Cherokee has a stock crank up rear window. I've gone through it with NOS parts, so I shouldn't have to resort to a "hatch-back" FSJ anytime soon. The polycarbonate material may be a little over-the-top. Plain ol' 1/4" or 5/16" acrylic sheeting ought to suffice. In fact now that I think of it, a guy might salvage a back window from a pickup shell (canopy in some locales). Confirm that the plastic can be cut to fit, then re-use the hardware to hang it. Well executed kludges can add character ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Aug 1999 20:45:49 EDT From: OrigamiTB-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: Re: rear window problem On Sat 31 July, freezer-at-indy.webbits.net (Greg Harper) wrote: >My '80 Wagoneer rear window is down and won't come up. >I was doing a little moving of stuff to the storage shed and > after I was done and wanting to put up the window, found > it not able to come up. I had the same problem with my '73, and when I took the glass out to have a look at the window-channels inside the tailgate, I found the stripping in pieces. After cleaning the channels with detergent spray and drying them with rubbing alcohol, I glued the pieces back together as well as I could with rubber cement. That was last Fall, and the window still works okay. ++ Cornel Ormsby ++ http://members.aol.com/OrigamiTB/WhRhino.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Aug 1999 19:16:09 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: next weekend, rigs and tire carriers next weekend... ...is the PNW 4wd association gathering at the Snohomish airfield... Top of the list of things I want to fix is some problems with the instrumentation. The gas gauge doesn't work and the temp gauge is intermittent. The sender on the gas tank appears fine, but there isn't any voltage going to it. I have the Haynes manual, but the electrical diagrams don't go into the details of the instrument cluster. If anybody has a better electrical diagram or knows of a source, I'd like to hear about it. Does the factory service manual go into the details of the wiring harness and have schematics of the instrument circuit board? When I hook my voltmeter to the temp sender connection (when it's working) there is a pulsed voltage (about 1/s). Is this expected? The manual says something about a 5V regulator, but doesn't describe what it looks like. Problem #2 is with lubricating the things that don't have grease fittings. I got a needle adapter from my local auto parts store, but it doesn't fit in the holes. The end is beveled and it won't seal against the hole from the outside either. It's the only type the store has. Do these things come in different sizes or am I just too clueless to use it? Phil ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #508 *************************
