"I looked and I saw it fall," Otten said of the sport-utility vehicle that suddenly dropped from the freeway yesterday afternoon. Otten immediately rushed to the mangled vehicle, but it was too late. Oliver Acholonu, 51, of Bothell apparently lost control of his Jeep Cherokee on the I-5 express lanes during rush hour, and the vehicle plunged about 100 feet to the parking lot below. Acholonu died at the scene. The State Patrol described it as a freak accident. "It's a once-in-a-million type of thing," said Sgt. T.J. Johnson. Acholonu was driving north on the crowded express lanes just north of Mercer Street when he made a lane change, cut off another car and lost control of the Cherokee, Johnson said. His car struck the barrier of the express lane, jumped it and struck a lamppost along the southbound lanes. The Cherokee then dropped through the space where the express lanes and southbound lanes are divided. Witnesses said medics arrived a short time later and attempted to do CPR on Acholonu. His car appeared too large to fit through the opening between the two freeway lanes, and the State Patrol is investigating just how the accident occurred. Johnson said it did not appear to be a case of road rage. The other car involved in the accident was not hit by Acholonu's Cherokee, but in trying to avoid a collision the car spun backward on the express lanes. The man and woman in the second car saw the Jeep disappear off the freeway, Johnson said. Jim Long, who was in a meeting in a building across the street from where the Cherokee landed, heard the crash and thought it was a jet's sonic boom. "It shook the building a little," Long said. The parking lot where the car landed was being repaved, so no cars were there at the time of the accident. The site is owned by the state Department of Transportation and leased to Lowe Enterprises. The driver of the second car tested negative for alcohol. A toxicology test will be conducted on Acholonu, Johnson said. ===================================================================== john meister sr CAD sys admin, Intermec ( http://www.wagoneers.com/ john-at-wagoneers.com ) ===================================================================== ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** http://wagoneers.com don't leave life without Jesus, please... Lets see, a stock 360 has a VE around 70% worst case. 60% of that would be about 40 so I could have a VE of 110! 110 without a Supercharger!! I think you can see were this claim is going James. Plus, the LA-A block Mopars do not have the same bore spacing as the AMC V-8 block AFAIK. The Mopar B-RBs (440, 400s and the 426 Hemi {which doesn't count}) are the engines with the same bore spacing as AMC's. Roug= h aluminum head castings for the B-RBs have been machined for use on AMC blocks before. I've seen flow bench data for the Magnum heads. While they were flowed on= a different bench than the one I flowed the AMC heads on, they were both done at 28" HG. Who knows about the molded clay used to simulate the port= entry on the Magnum heads...that being the other variable. The Magnum hea= ds are about a full 30 CFM under what a AMC big valve head will flow. Of course, in all fairness the Magnum's only have 1.88"/1.50" valves where t= he AMC's have 2.02"/1.68". A bigger hole is a bigger hole no matter what. And to top it all off, the Magnum engines get worse gas mileage when compared to other EFI V-8s. A 5.2L in a Dakota is lucky to break 13 MPG. That's not indicative of an engine with a good VE number. Chrysler finall= y has a worthy modern engine though. The 4.7L. A: What's wrong with the Dodge 5.6L Magnum injectors? The whole system can be picked up for about $1000 from the wrecking yard, and you would have to use the Grand Cherokee V8 torque converter for the 727 O/D (can't think of it's number) balance the 4.0L 6 cyl flexplate for the 360 and drill the 727 housing to accept the sensor (not too hard, since I already have a Dodge one to match up with) The intake would need an adapter (same as the one they use with the Dodge intakes to Dodge heads on AMC blocks, but redrilled to accept the EFI intake. Once the first set of heads are made, then castings can be made of them for aluminum pouring, with the right holes, and adapter plates for the intake as well. So you'll only get 22 mpg or so? Is that worth the extra power you will get? Ray wrote: Hmmmm... I wonder if the injecters can be hooked into Holley's MPI pro-jection computer. Maybe it would help to understand why the mileage is where it is if I explain some more details of the rig. It's an '81 Full Size Cherokee with 4.2L and TF727 with lockup. The gears are 3.31 and the wheel/tire combo is BF Goodrich 33x12.5 All-Terrains on stock chromed 15x8 steel wheels. Also, it's lifted 3" with Rancho springs in the front and blocks in the back. So...you can see that not only does it have a bigger frontal area due to the lift but it's pushing some substantial meats as well. As I explained to John...at some point, aerodynamics becomes the driving part of the economy equation.
