Brad wrote: Let's see, Hurricane Floyd is about two days out. He's packing 155 mph winds. The storm surge is expected to be 18 feet. Cape Canaveral and KSC are on the barrier islands. If I remember correctly, the base of the ramp for Launch Complex 36A is about 16' above Sea Level. (Are you starting to see the problem here?) The ramp itself is about 20' tall, and the nozzles of the Atlas are about a foot above the ramp. So if the surge is going to cover the entire island, and the waves are going to be breaking against the ramp, how tall of a snorkel do I need on my jeep to get to work? A: Never mind that. Are you going to get that rocket up before the water covers it? Actually, the question is, if I expect to be doing some serious fording to get back to what is left of my house, is there anything specific I should do to my jeep for deep water? I need the manual they used for the Jeeps they dumped off of the LCs on the beach at Normandy. Let's see, loosen up the fan belt, or remove it altogether, check vacuum hoses, and this would be a good time to extend the breather lines out of the axles. Is there a breather tube on the tranny or transfer case? A: A snorkel facing backwards and as high as you can get it would be good. If you have a clutch fan, you have no prob (I took Elmo through a mudhole that came over the hood on one side as I scrambled it back up the bank, and I found out later that a CJ was at the bottom of the hole, unseen!) There are factory lines from the gas tank, diffs and tranny and transfercase that come out behind the engine. If it weren't for the smell, I'd reroute them into the back of the cab. I guess I know what I should have been doing this weekend! I'd feel sorry for all of these buttheads that built their houses on the barrier islands if the end result of their stupidity wasn't that I have to pay higher insurance rates. Maybe the pipe is too close to the floor board. Also there should be a heat shield of sorts in the form of a layer of sheet metal spaced about a half inch from the floor (below on the pass. side). Are there any holes in the floor? the floor will feel even hotter (it seems) when there's holes in it from the pipes. Is your distributor cap & rotor in good shape? How about the vacum advance unit. Also, a bad vacuum leak can cause your stall. Mike S> At 08:32 PM 9/12/99 -0400, Mark Graves II wrote: >Thanks for the advise guys. He went to the hospital with a "flu", turned out to be a perforated ulcer and other complications that lead to kidney failure and eventually heart failure... I don't know his specific age but he was in his early to mid 50's. He was a smoker and always seemed to have some concerns pressing on him. His son and wife have emailed a couple of us with the details. I never met Joe, but over the last several years had developed a "close" friendship with him via email and on the telephone. Joe was a real sincere guy with a big heart and sensitive to others. We had many discussions on issues of faith and my hope is that he found Jesus before he passed. His father was a man of faith and Joe's heart was tender, so my hope is that I'll see him on the other side. :) I plan on gathering some of the pages he did and making a memorial to a fallen FSJ friend... life is short, pray hard... :) and, please, don't leave life without Jesus, please... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** http://wagoneers.com don't leave life without Jesus, please...
