Mary buys what she wants, and I get whatever is left over. Of course, what she buys is, by definition, really important and necessary. A fine example is the new paint that we got on the interior this year. The old stuff wasn't discolored, cracking, or peeling. It was just "old". I mean, the colors were fine eight years ago, and they haven't changed? Why are they now unacceptable? She tries to explain it to me, and is really exhasperated that I can't see the obvious fact that it is somehow sinful to let a wall stay the same color for ten years. Of course, I can't complain too much. She actually found that brown monstrosity that we have in the driveway, and bugged me until I took a look at it. She also didn't complain when I told her that we really NEED Holley Pro-Jection. Of course, we have to get an Edelbrock Performer manifold or the Holley won't fit properly. Really, Honey... we need a 3" exhaust system. Trust me. I need to replace it anyhow, and we need to add a bung for the sensor, so we might as well do it right. Also, the Jacobs Omni-Magnum is a real necessity if you want this thing to run reliablly and get good mileage. (I later found out that she has a lead foot almost as bad as mine) Now let me see if I understand this. All the goodies you bought are matched by something that she wants (by definition, more important...) So, you sell a bunch of your goodies (that were already matched) to raise money for something you want, and then you have to match that? Isn't that sort of like getting taxed twice? Maybe she should be a Democrat. She certainly has the knack of making you think that double-taxation is fair. Of course, trying to explain that to her would be futile (I know women - I married one). Perhaps you could suggest some of her goodies that she can sell to get her new (really important) stuff. I got a discount converter on the internet (http://www.discountconverter.com/), and I must say it was a deal ($127.85 with 3 days shipping included). Got the converter installed for about $65 and my hydrocarbons went from 550ppm down to 81ppm at the test station yesterday (had to get below 220). It is nice to have the state air nazi's off my back. They really hate my Quadratrac 'cause they don't get to use their fancy resistance test on my vehicle! They don't remember how to run the other test most of the time and it takes them about 20 minutes to get their heads out of their rear to test me. After I get the motor done, I'm planning a stainless steel exhaust system for the "Res Runner". A place on the internet sells this stuff too. Contemplating using headers since I don't know if I can get a stainless "Y" to fit the stock manifolds. But I'm still looking. Now I've determined that my tailgate window motor is shot. Hope I can get a new one. Wag's running great but every now and then on the freeway as I approach Toyota 4runners from the rear, I noticed that the engine "burps" as the 4 runner disappears. Happens every time those top heavy, all tire, no metal, plastic molded, hunks of junk get too close to the intake scoop. Do you think my Jeep is possessed? Or do they just got to learn to move into the slow lane when they see that humped grill in their rearview? I try to slow down by taking my foot off of the pedal but that doesn't seem to work for the following reasons: - - FSJ's are really heavy and keep their speed - - I am a bit nearsighted and my reaction time sucks - - I think I gain a few mpg every time it happens - - I haven't had to add tranny fluid or oil lately - - I THINK THE RES RUNNER LIKES IT!!!! It hasn't tried this with Fords or Chevy's yet but it is only a matter of time I think. HELP ME OFFICER! MY JEEP'S POSSESSED! (Mua Ha Ha Ha! It made for an excellent weekend to get my rebuilt 360 installed in my 1975 Wagoneer. After getting it mostly put together last weekend, we were able to drop it in within about 6 hours. Before installing it we changed the front seal on my TH400, reinstalled the freshly sand blasted and painted exhaust manifolds. My friend also brazed the air injection holes closed, it won't work with Projection. oh darn The installation went without major problem. We spent some time trying to line up the engine and trans, but after shifting them around for about 2 hours, we were finally able to get it sorted out. The first problem we found was that the bolt we used to lift the motor was backing into the firewall, then we had to get the engine to settle in so that we could close the gap on the engine and trans. My friend also welded in the boss for the O2 sensor. It turned out awesomely. The sensor tucks in above the front driveshaft just behind the Y. It follows the body line perfectly, but does not interfere. It should be well protected for trail use. Today, we changed out the trans filter and and bolted up a few loose ends from below. We also did the fuel lines for the Projection. We cut the supply and then inserted the electric fuel pump on the inside driver's frame rail just in front of the cross member. We were able to reuse 95% of the original hard fuel line with the exception of 11 inches for the fuel pump and filter. I also realised that I should swap the cheap plastic filter for a real metal one in the process. The plastic one does not seem very durable. All that I must do now is complete installation of the Projection, Jacobs omni magnum (replaces the BID box), Mallory distrib (already in, but must have final line up), Power steering pump, alternator, fan & rad, hoses, belts, and vacuum lines. ===== John Jacobs - jeep_wag_75-at-yahoo.com 1975 Jeep Wagoneer Royal Oak, Michigan http://members.home.net/jacobsj/index.htm __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This file may be found on the web at http://www.digest.net/general-notes.txt [last revised 10/12/1999, rpw] Table of Contents 1. Why don't my postings go through? 2. Why can't I unsubscribe? 3. How do I post to the list? 4. Where are the archives? The Meta-FAQ 1. Why don't my postings go through? there are several things that may interfere with postings making it to the list. a) are you a member? some read the ftp archives rather than receiving the list in email. in order to post to the list, you need to contact me (rwelty-at-krusty-motorsports.com) and get me to add your name to the list of "permitted senders". b) has your email address changed? some of you have had changes in your email address. your old address still works, and is still on the list, but your From: line shows a new address. this can happen for various reasons; you may have changed jobs or ISPs, and left a forward in place, or your IT staff may have fiddled with the email system. you will need to unsubscribe your old email address and subscribe the new one. this may require my involvement, if you can't figure out a way to get your old address off the list using the conventional majordomo commands. you can use the majordomo "which" command to probe for old addresses. send a message to majordomo-at-digest.net with one or more which commands in the body, one per line. to check for potential addresses for Fred Flinstone, formerly of bedrock.org, the following commands can be sent: which flintstone which bedrock note that the matches above might return any of the following addresses, if they appear in the list (in other words, you can use vagueness and incompleteness in your recollection as a tool): Fred.Flinstone-at-bedrock.org fflinstone-at-wilma.bedrock.org flintstonef-at-bedrock.com c) do you have more than one email address? if so, only the subscribed addresses can post, unless you contact me (see 1.a) above for relevant information) d) are you using (intentionally or accidentially) special "features" of your mail client? formats such as html, rtf, and the like, are blocked as they don't work well in digest format and annoy many readers of the digest. most kinds of attachments are blocked for similar reasons -- binaries, word documents, and excel spreadsheets are simply not good things to send to the digest. virtual business cards (a Netscape "feature") are blocked as well. you need to turn off any special features of this type to get your mail through the digest. e) are your posts too large? there is a 10,000 character limit on posting sizes; this is done for various reasons. you can always split up large postings to get mail through. f) are you including majordomo commands at the start of your message? administrivia control is turned on; this is a trap for things like "unsubscribe" at the start of a message. try to avoid obvious majordomo commands in the subject and the first 10 lines, or misspell them in obvious ways (e.g. unzubscribe, 1ndex, h3lp, g3t, etc.) g) are you triggering spam traps? some things are red flags; for example, the following phrases in subject lines are automatically blocked: Important Message From growth stocks free calling card direct e-mail secrets Merchant Account Mass Marketing make money fast Pediatric advice Email ? Million People what "they" don't want are you being investigated the actual list is quite a bit longer; i think you get the idea. h) are you using "funky" character sets? unfortunately, there are "issues" if i permit any character set other than old fashioned 7 level ASCII; therefore, you need to avoid national character sets that include various accents, umlauts, national currency characters such as the British pound symbol, etc. i) are you unintentionally including complete digests in your reply? You need to check and make sure you cut down replys to the minimal size; digests are between 20,000 and 25,000 characters in length, and if you include a complete digest in your reply, it clearly won't make the 10,000 character limit. By the way, this feature is intentional. j) Are you using a "bad" ISP or mail relay? Krusty Motorsports (aka digest.net) subscribes to the "MAPS Realtime Blackhole List" and the "MAPS Relay Spam Stopper". These lists block email from known sources of spam (either ISPs with bad attitudes or policies, or badly managed mail environments.) Interested parties should visit http://www.mail-abuse.org/ for full details. 2. Why can't I unsubscribe? a) are you using the right address? send to majordomo-at-digest.net, and the command format is unsubscribe list-name my-email-address b) has your email address changed? majordomo has no way of knowing that Fred.Flinstone-at-BarneyCo.com was once fflintstone-at-bedrock.org. you can check this with the which command (see 1.b) above for details) 3. How do I post to the list? You may use either one of two addresses: for example, the bmw-digest may be reached using either bmw-at-digest.net or bmw-digest-at-digest.net If you are using the correct addresses and your posts don't show up, check out the stuff in 1. above. 4. Where are the archives? see ftp://ftp.digest.net/ for digest archives. the web archives have proven problematic, and are awaiting time for a systematic attack on the problems they've been having. ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #594 *************************
