With the factory "6-pack" (triple two-choke Webers) it put out 302hp in factory trim (~1972). This powered a whole different breed of "Hemi-Charger" down under; at least one member of the other list has one of these engines in a CJ. The guy on the phone was helpful though, and recommended that I try drums for a Dodge Ram 350 from the early to mid '90s. Any thoughts on this? I am no longer a fan of the Torqueflite transmission. Several reasons, the primary being they don't seem to last very long... Old Blue, with only about 150,000 miles on him, had three of 'em! The other principle reason is the fact that the fluid isn't routed to the cooler in park!!! Why would they do that??? So you can fix the tranny lines with the car running???? sheesh... Aisin-Warner trannies used in the xj, 30-40LE, are incredible... mine is original and has over 198,000 miles on it. Another friend has 245,000 miles on his, took it down for inspection and found no problems... I just converted my 81 full size bronco to intermitant wipers by going to a wrecking yard and buying the delay module and switch out of a late 70s FSJ for $5! Works great! The Bronco wiring harness plugged right in! The Stepside (yet to be named) is over at Jim Startups right now getting the Holley 1v TBI installed... After my weekend with Murphy, and my little wagoneer still down, I'd best have it done... It's my only set of wheels right now... I'm hoping, praying and counting on it being ready this evening when I want to go home. :) I'm pumped. The 258 ran pretty well with the Holley carb on it, but it was way too much carb for that engine, mileage was terrible... like 13 or so... Hopefully Johnny over there will get that 258 purring like a kitten, and roaring like a lion when I stand on it. :) He and I did the Edelbrock setup on Old Blue. I was going to go over and work with him on it, but I just don't have the motivation right now...
