The VP even said they feel that folks will be back to see what stupidity will follow! It's as though they're using the controversy to further the hit counter... Come on folks, spin that dial so we can tell advertisers how many bazillion hits our pages get... Dave, I've played around with this idea on one of my rigs, in fact trying to eliminate a vibration... I couldn't make it change. I've also played around with it a bit on the front driveshaft on my little wagoneer... again, no change. In theory if the driveshaft is balanced correctly it shouldn't matter which way the driveshaft is phased. Although I've heard this advice before and would love to hear others input and comments on it. I know it is an issue, but I haven't seen it as a problem on any of my rigs. It is in fact in several shop manuals!!! One of the first steps is to mark the yoke and the driveshaft with chalk or paint! Has anyone experienced a vibe because they didn't phase it? I'm curious... This kind of falls into the same category as radial tire rotation... it used to be a big issue, but it's not any more... One piece SYDs don't matter, because they can go together only one way (well, 2 if you count removing the front Ujoint from the slip yoke). FYD is a different story. If you split them in the middle, they have to go together mirror imaged Ujoints, or the vibration will rattle the teeth from your head! My friend had a '79 Ford P/U that was that way when she bought it. No-one noticed the driveshaft was 90 degrees out (or maybe the liars did) and all told her she needed a new diff. She was going to get me to do it for $100 less. I noticed, and resynched the driveshaft, and only charged her $20. May have a shop do the cab to dodge the infamous Murphy bullet... ;) not sure... funds are running low... :( The little wagoneer is at Jim Startup's tonight/tomorrow... rear main and rear bearings. I found that the rear bearings were VASTLY different than what's on there. Double checked the parts computer to verify we had the right ones. I'm convinced now that the rear disc setup will be fine... phew... I'm pumped, I did the SAE filter conversion and installed a new oil pressure sending unit. A few weeks ago I installed "new" injectors. I'm gonna remount my new Michelin LTX 31's on the factory alloy's (late 70's vintage slotted disc types) and use the old white spoke rims (one is bent) with some worn BFG 30x9.5's for my trailer so they are the same as the little wagoneer... :) (My boss gave me his old BFG's from his 95 xj, they're about 30% left, good enough for a trailer. :) This is gonna be great to have both Jeeps dialed in and ready for... for what??? It's almost spring and no snow... :( Guess I'll have to go wheeling. ;) Got a friend that lives up in Index who has a nice Diesel powered Travelall and been scouting (no pun intended... :) out some old trails... If the trails are really good I'll share 'em with y'all. He's an old timer at wheeling... He grew up in New Mexico and has some really cool stories. He's had his 67 Travelall down some of the trails we did in 97 before I totalled my XJ... He drove it through the deep water without fear... He also mentioned clearing brush on the trail... ;) I'll be sure to bring a tow strap... that way I know I'll get home ok. :) Actually, I should bring long boards to just park my little wagoneer on his roof rack and let him drive it out. BTW, my boss is talking about getting a new rig, he's got a 95 2dr RED cherokee with a 3" rancho, new 31 BFG MTs, 4.0L/AT, nerf bars, etc. super, super, clean. I think he's only going to be asking $7,500 for it... He takes great care of his stuff. It's a screaming deal... He's talking Durango or a big Dodge super cab... Trying to talk him into a Cummins Diesel setup... he's talking V10... and then saying under his breath a V8... ;) Email me off list if you're interested and I'll put you in touch with him as soon as he decides to get a car, er truck, payment. :) Two problems with it from my knothole, 1) it's red, 2) it's a 2 door. john - ----------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/83stepside/ http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Jx000s/marks-67-J3000/ (son's FSJ) http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html Snohomish, WA, where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2000 22:43:04 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: electric door lock kit I have a brand new Electric Door Lock kit for a 4 door... I even installed it with an alarm system for remote access. I'm not sure if I can use it with only 2 locks or not... The 2 dr kit is $10 less... I've had it for at least 5 years, so there is no hope of returning it. I bought it for the 86 xj cherokee I installed an engine in... guess that was in '94... wow does time fly. ;) Let me know. Here's some basic info on show. It's one of the largest in the country and the largest on the west coast for the whole AMC family including Willys/AMC Jeep. Unfortunately, we only average about 4-6 Jeeps per show and I really would love to increase that number. After all, they were a very important part of the AMC family. The show will be held on July 21-22, 2000 at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. Ocean Shores is located on the Washington coast in Grays Harbor county about a 2 hour drive from Seattle. Aside from the car show, we have an indoor swap meet (we need Jeep parts vendors badly!), parade of cars through town and a catered awards banquet. We also have raffles, give away a bunch of door prizes and much more. It's a very family oriented event so bring kids by all means. The show site is very, very close to the pacific ocean with a beach you can drive right on to. It's also next to a small shopping area with some great shops (kite shop, ice cream and candy shop, gift shop, etc.) Please send me an address so I can mail you a flyer with complete details and a registration form. Please spread the word among Jeep owners. I would love to see a ton of them. Our goal and theme this year is "200 in 2000".
