That's the same technology they developed and have been selling for several years, now. There IS acid in that battery, but it is in a non-liquid form. Seems like that kind of contact would be a bad thing. That must be why the bore is more scuffed on the passenger side. I guess I answered my own question. Doesn't seem like a very elegant solution. << Mike wrote: Yup, you figured it out. The skirt makes contact with the cylinder wall from time to time. And it isn't very elegant but, in 100 years no one has come-up with a better solution. There were a lot of people and Mazda to name one company who thought the rotary was the answer. Be interesting if someone takes another crack at the rotary using today's technology. I believe all of its shortcomings were solved except for efficiency. =A0=A0Michael Baxter, MBaxter-at-Compuserve.com-OR-N7OVD-at-arrl.net http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/MBaxter From Reno, NV USA on 21-Feb-2000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JimBlair, Seattle,WA 1983 4.2L Chero 4dr http://homepages.go.com/~carnuck/carnuck.html Pics: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=3D13998&Auth=3Dfalse =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2000 13:02:47 -0800 (PST) From: Carnuck-at-webtv.net (James Blair) Subject: fsj: bounced email I got an email from gagler.com this morning that overloaded my box, so I'm sorry if any you bunch wrote bounced. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JimBlair, Seattle,WA 1983 4.2L Chero 4dr http://homepages.go.com/~carnuck/carnuck.html Pics: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998&Auth=false ================================= ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2000 13:36:59 -0800 From: Eric Faust Subject: Re: fsj: Spark nock I thought I sent this to the list and never saw it come back. The mech is probably treating you like a blonde ;o) The dreaded spark knock is common to late model GW's. The factory came out with a fix, which they provided for free for quite a while. Ask your Jeep dealer for a free one, and after he stops laughing at you, pay the money. Not sure what they go for these days. Check out this link http://www.offroad-net.com/~ifsja/tech/motors/ping2.htm for details. You may want to try all the steps without purchasing the kit just in case you have the right EGR, but someone used the FSM to reconnect all the hoses in the original configuration. Good luck! I was making a delivery to a new customer of my company and parked in the yard, with utility trailer attached, was a red 1965 Jeep J-4000. It has the first operating Tornado overhead cam straight 6 I have ever seen! It is in pretty good shape, three speed on the floor, four wheel drive, and he just bought it three months ago, for $300!! And that included the utility trailer!! And he's not selling it! Darn! The only wierd thing about it was that it looked like it had once had a column shifter and there was no lever, or even a hole for a lever, where the transfer case shift lever should be. Yet I looked under it and it has a D-20 transfer case. Either it was originally a two wheel drive truck that was later made 4-wheel drive, or is there a possibility that the four wheel drive lever could have been somewhere else? Later in the day, I am putting a stereo on a the truck back at the store, and a fellow pulls up behind me. I have known him for a couple years and he has a nice sky blue '71 Wagoneer with the 350 Buick motor and TH400. He tells me he just bought a '74 Cherokee, for $200! 360 4 barrel! Quadratrac! It runs and drives! But the motor might be due for a rebuild cause it smokes....and the front springs need re-arching or replacing, because they are flat. After work I am at the new Wal-Mart Supercenter and run into another friend of mine who has a '78 J-Pickup, with the 258 six. Part-time 4-wheel drive. All this in one day!
