I don't do much off-road, but in light of the "drippy" nature of FSJs, does it make sense to go with poly anyway instead of the rubber? How adversely will this affect road-feel? 2) My shop told me the ball joints are shot, which of course means two new tie-rod halves. Is this an easy enough job to tackle myself, or would I be better off letting someone else do the wrenching? TIA for your help. Okay, there's this guy on eBay selling rear quarter patch panels for Wags. The stamping looks pretty nice, but there's obviously got to be a source for these panels somewhere that doesn't require bidding on :) Does anyone know who makes these, and where they can be bought? I'm gonna take it to the shop that does front end alignments and let them do it. They don't charge much for those kinds of repairs and have all the tools. I don't think the swaybar end links are available in poly for the GWs, but if they are use the rubber pads on the frame and there won't be as much vibration transferred. I did that on my Fairlane, and the handling improved lots, but you'd want a disconnect for offroading for flexibility! John wrote: I've done poly before, NEVER again. No backfiring? What was the oil pressure like? (I had one oil pump nearly seize up, and the shear pin gave i the dist, knocking the timing out of whack, then it slipped 360 and caught. It would start, and first throttle hit it would jump around and catch. I pulled it on the side of the road and put a nail in to get me home) Check compression, and make sure no pushrods have popped loose. Hot running on a new engine is bad, and may have warped the heads. The comp test will tell you what's up. The other quick test I do to see if the head gasket has a problem is fill the rad, pull the coil wire and crank it over with the rad cap off. (you can jump wire the solenoid to do it if alone) If it bubbles up, you have a compression leak.
