I leave Seattle Saturday April 15, retun Saturday April 22. I'll be staying at my folks house in Apopka most of the time, but will be at the Wellesley Inn for the nights of the Linux class (Sun through Tuesday night). I'll have Sunday, Thursday and Friday pretty much open, unless my folks figure out something before I do. :) I may try to get over to Cocoa Beach/Melbourne to see my sister. Will have my laptop and cameras. What about me!?!?!? I'm a six-aholic from WAAAAAYYYY back! My first car I drove on the road was a Vauxhall Cresta 6 cyl with 3 speed O/D in '72 (underaged) and my Dad's stock hauling truck had a GMC Turrow fire diesel (I grew up on a 34 acre hobby farm), and even our tractor was a 6 banger! Fastest 6 spark plug motor I had was a Mazda, but that was a 3 chamber twin turbo rotary with NO2 and a Mann tranny and Tee gate shifter, because when you can do a 1/4 in barely 8 seconds, the G force makes it hard to push the shifter forward! My first AMC 6 cyl was a '72 Gremlin (232 with 4 speed), and my first FSJ is Elmo, which I bought for $350 because the DSPO couldn't make it run (new motor ruined by leaving the hood off because the ignition box was dead and it kept breaking starters) I originally got Elmo because I needed a tranny for my Eagle, and I heard the FSJs all had 727s. Was sort of disappointed when I found it had a 900 series, but I was going to put the transfercase in my Eagle. I didn't know about the different lengths and cases, etc then (2.5 years ago) or PT/full time differences. By the time I figured all that out, I had put my Eagle's motor in Elmo (I kept blowing up 998s in the Eagle) and sort of said the heck with the Eagle ever since (although I pick up parts for it, and plan it's resto soon, so I can redo Elmo this summer. I have a spare 4.2L to put in and all the parts to rebuild a 727 lockup) I did have an IH 4x4 6 cyl 5 speed 1 ton pickup before (that I rant about my ex-wife selling for a case of beer when we split.) If you don't have the vacuum motor on the front axle, it might help reduce wear and tear, which is minimal anyway. HOWEVER, it has been pointed out to me that if you engage a Selectrac without having those hubs engaged you will have very bad things happen to the viscous coupler! It seems that the coupler will try to distribute torque to both outputs until it twists itself into oblivion... The other problem with an NP229 is it does NOT have an emergency lock, so not only do you not go anywhere if your hubs aren't engaged but you also do damage. :) I'd recommend leaving well enough alone and living with the minimal wear and tear of having the driveshaft spinning if you don't have the vacuum motor. I'd keep an eye on the double cardan joints, keep 'em lubed, if they come apart it'll do bad things to surrounding items... like your transmission... I met someone who had their driveshaft come up through the floor of their YJ and break their leg!!! Never heard of it in a Wagoneer, but I know it's happened on the freeway to a guy with a YJ... not a good thing. >-->2. Have you found a good solution to being able to carry more gas? I have an UltraCoil on Superdawg... tried to regap the plugs to 0.045 as recommended by Jacobs... had to move them back to 0.039 and may go back to the 0.035 before it's all done. Thankfully adjusting plugs on a 258 is a piece o cake. :) Love my 4.2L. >-->Any thoughts that you have would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. >-->Regards, Labe Leibowitz labepat-at-excite.com >--> Congrats on your 87 GW. I like any GW that's newer than 86. :) Integrated heater controls and headrests.
