Put over 800 miles on the Wag before heading home (another 500 miles). Ran at 75 mph (about 3100 on the tach) when on interstate highway, is that typical?. Also pulled a couple of trees on the farm with Rez in 4lo. One tree hit an unrelated stump while I was pulling it along. It was at that point that the Rez decided to go to China. My brother said all four wheels were spinning. Does that mean I have limited slips in there? Pretty cool! I then pulled another tree that was about 3 feet diameter. Rez really churned the earth and the power was awesome! My brother was unable to budge this tree previously with his Ch*&% pickup (4"lift, 454, th400, np205, but big wide meats). Sorry for the long message but coming home, I was passing some trucks and the Rez died as if she couldn't get any fuel. I took a look and it would idle fine, rev fine, just couldn't maintain more than 40 mph on highway. Stopped at an Autozone along the way and put on a new ignition module and coil but that didn't help. Checked the fuel filter, pump, and blew into the gas line back to the tank but no restrictions. I'm thinking I got some bad gas in Des Moines 'cause after I put in a can of STP gas treatment, with a full tank of 87 octane (it was hot outside), I was able to coax it up to 55 then 60 then 65 and eventually got home. However, even then, if you pushed it too hard, it would cough and die out. I'm thinking about tearing into the carb. I'm also thinking I need to clean out the tank or try to find a new one. Thanks guys and gals have a good AMC day By the way, for those of you who decide to order one their is a trick on proper installation. 1. use charcoal lighter to clean off the plastic where the Velcro tape sticks down. It will not adhere to an area that was previously "Amoralled". (Spelling) The charcoal BBQ lighter fuel removes the residue so the velcro sticks. 2. Use a teflon frying pan spatualla or a credit card to encourage the Dashtopper to fit snuggly between the dashboard and the windshield. The spacing in there will vary for a number of reasons, manufacturing tolerances, old age, whether the dash has been out or not etc. 3. Roll up a damp towel (not sopping damp) and leave car in the warm some where untill towel dries, place towel up in the area where the defroster vents are, usually near the junction of the dash and the windshield. The moisture will help the Dash Topper to lay flat accross the dash when everything has dried. I never have fastened the one down on my Spirit, it fits so well that I have just set it in there. I have had no problems yet. No, the Jeep 4x4 external hub requires a larger center hole than the Ford 4x4 hub (internal) with the same bolt pattern. Jeep was a real odd-ball because they were slow to update front wheel hubs along with the front Dana 44. I think International kept using the external hub for a while as well. From what I can tell, all wheel hubs used by Ford/Dodge/Chevy (beginning in the early '70s) that use an internal locking hub have the same diameter. For a few years in the '70s, heavy 3/4 and 1 tons used a huge hub, but that's a pretty rare find now. Ford 1/2 ton 4x4 wheel hubs didn't change until '97 except for some odd stuff in '87 and '88. I lost track of Chevy trucks when they did the big re-design in '88 or so. I haven't had my hands on a Dodge since the new (current) body style came out.
