Mine's on the right rear to compensate for the gas tank for long trips) they usually compensate steering, etc for the weight of the driver. This oldie came across my screen today! I may have answered it already. Get the back of your ammeter checked for corrosion, and have a draw meter put on your battery (after cleaning the clamps real well) to see how many amps are being drawn. He suggested a J-4000 series truck. I just did a little preliminary research on the subject in both Jim Allen's Illustrated Jeep Buyer's Guide and the Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks and it appears that the J-4000 series was offered just between 1970 and 1973. Is this correct and if so, what is the characteristic that distinguishes these trucks from other 3/4 ton J-Trucks? I'm certainly no expert on this and would appreciate any help as I prepare to find a vehicle to profile. For this article, we would be looking for a vehicle that is either in original or stock restored condition...no extensive modifications if it can be avoided. Given that I am partial to "Rhino" grilled rigs, I'd prefer one with that configuration. Who can tell me what year that the J-trucks changed over to the grille style similar to my '69 Super Wagoneer. Please feel free to pass this request on to other Jeep-related lists. Since I'm in Southern California, I'd prefer to deal with a local rig due to the photography issues. Southern Nevada (Las Vegas) and Arizona are OK as well. Beyond that, contact me and if you have a suitable vehicle, we can try to deal with the photography issues. The next issue of JP, with a May 2000 cover date, will have a profile on an M715 that I caught up with last summer at Camp Jeep in Virginia. My girlfriend wrote the text (her first full automotive feature) and I provided the photography. I hope that you'll all agree that it turned out pretty good. If anyone can help me locate a J-4000 and provide me some background information, please write me direct at rmsquaredjeeps-at-aol.com. Yes. Save your transmissions and pull the driveshaft from the rear axle (it's only 4 bolts, after all). Or put the back of the car on the tow-dolly so the non-driven wheels are on the ground. Trouble with towing a rwd car with the transmission in neutral is that the tranny's oil-pump is geared off the input shaft, so if only the output shaft is turning, you've got spinning parts with no lubrication (i.e. burnt-out bearings). ________________________________________________ Bob Barry MailTo:RBarry-at-Providence.Edu http://studentweb.providence.edu/~rbarry/wheels/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 23:04:42 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Snohomish Jeep Fest - April 2nd - Sunday afternoon Doug Wright is on an expedition for the perfect engine...
