(part deux) actually the 83 and up 5.7's are better. The Targetmaster replacement engines include those. I had an 80, and the cam went flat at about 80,000. The 83 and up engines had roller lifter cams, redesigned gaskets, better head bolts and mains... Mine went to 230,000 miles before I had a tranny problem that caused it to hit first gear at 65mph... it didn't like that... I didn't perform an autopsy... it served me well. I think a 5.7L= Targetmaster engine would serve well in an FSJ.
