Any ideas? it has a dyno mike in the set, but was always wondering , would a dyno mike added, be over kill? the feds say you can only have 10 to 12 watts, ( think that's right..) what does this import put out? This is all voodoo and I don't understand it despite a degree that involved too many EE classes and pass= ing my Ham license test a year ago. :) For antennas at home, your ground plane is Planet Earth. If you can't si= nk a copper shaft into the ground, you can create your own ground plane for antennas out of a grid of metal or a bunch of short metal rods radiating = out perpendicular to the antenna, etc. If you're mobile, you make the car yo= ur ground plane. If your car isn't steel (eg: an aluminum or fiberglass bod= y as on a camper or camper shell) then you need an antenna that can provide it= s own ground plane. Bottom line: put your antenna on the center of the roof for best, most ev= en transmission in all directions. Put it on the RR to direct your radio wa= ves ahead and towards the oncoming lane of traffic on the highway. In practi= se, off-road, you can put the antenna anywhere. Just be sure it is grounded to the body--either thru the magmount base, o= r if permanent mount, make sure its base/mounting point connects to the sheet = steel of the body. Or make sure it provides its own ground plane. Michael - --- Michael E. You're right, the 29LTD is probably more fully-featured and is a m= ore serious CB radio. How much does it cost? I had a Uniden PC66XL for awhi= le with RF gain, mic gain, and some other goodies. Useful? Sure. But the = unit cost quite a bit. More than was necessary for off-road, really. I could've gotten the Grant XL and had USB/LSB and some delta tune featur= es and other wingdings.
